We saw numerous fountains, and you could tell that they were lovely, BUT, except for a very few (around the Crown Center) none of them were working yet. We could see groups of workmen getting them back into working order after the winter, and we were informed that the water would be turned on April 1st. What a shame that we did not get to see them at their beauty! Our Trolley Tour driver told us that the first fountains in Kansas City were placed by the Humane Society (of KC) in 1904. It seems that these were not only fountains for people to enjoy, but also where horses and dogs could get a drink of water.
Kansas City has great fountains with wonderful statues over much of the Plaza area with so many places to enjoy while you're viewing them.
The JC Nichols Fountain on the northeast side of the Country Club Plaza is one of my all-time favorite fountains in the world. When the weather is nice, it is fun to people watch as a diverse group of citizens enjoy the fountain and green space. The area is also often a place where wedding parties take pictures, civic groups stage a meeting point, and protesters stand up for those things they believe in. To enjoy this fountain from a further vantage point, sit on the deck of Cafe Trio Restaurant a block east of the fountain.
Kansas City has an amazing number of lovely fountains, dotting the landscape. Some are quite elaborate such as the one at the end of Country Club Plaza while others are simple. Many are worth a special visit.
Best way to see these fountains is by horseback drawn carriage. This tour takes you by all of them and explains how they all were founded.
I had heard about the fountains in KC ever since I moved here in 2010, but I'd never taken the time to explore them. A friend of mine had a tour guide, so we took the motorcycles and road the route. I had no idea there were so many and of this calibre. Kansas City has been surprising me for four years. I love it here.
KC is known as the "City of Fountains" for good reason. There are many all around the city. Many, large and small, are on the Country Club Plaza. They are all works of art and should be appreciated by one and all.
Fountains are the most beautiful in the country. Worth making a trip to see the beautiful fountains.
It would take weeks to see all of Kansas City's fountains. The main concentration is found in the Country Club Plaza district. They even have a map for those. Numerous books have been published about KC's fountains, some by Hallmark for sure. Most of the higher profile fountains are outdoors and easy to find. Some you may have to pay a fee to see (Kaufmann Stadium where the Royals play, and hope they hit a home run, for example). Some fountains are found in lobbies of hotels, offices buildings, or shopping centers. Seems to be no end of the possibilities of finding fountains in Kansas City.
I am referring to the fountains on The Plaza. I am grateful to those who planned this location and the wonderful sculpture that is everywhere. All the fountains are special.
If you are staying in downtown and you hear what sounds like cannons don't worry. The water fountain below the World War 1 monument is the source. It fires bursts of water into the air in streams and in huge drops. Worth a walk to or drive by. Excellent photo opportunity.
These fountains will be the best I have seen in the U.S. and are amazing. The sculptures of the fountains have to be some of the best I have seen.
Scattered all over the city. Fun winter and summer. JC Nichols special sister city displays on the Plaza worth a couple of hours.
The fountains throughout Kansas City are part of the city's personality. Not sure I would make a special trip to view them, but rather be sure to notice the fountains as I travel the city and in the Plaza.
Beautiful all over the city, Some place to lights and music and several have different color water in them.
