bigelow park

We recently spent a couple of hours at this lovely park located on the north end of Middlegrounds Island, located on the Saginaw River. I noticed the park last year when I took the free public boat tour that goes up the river toward the Zilwaukee Bridge. It has a wonderful boardwalk that is actually out over the water. The walkway connects Bigelow Park to the Pier and Veterans Memorial Park. There is lighting all along the walk, as well as numerous benches, a nice touch! We did see some neglect, however. So many cobwebs, some broken or loose boards, some painting needed. However, the park itself was very clean and well kept. Grass cut, no trash, picnic tables in good shape, playground is nice and the picnic shelter is large and well maintained. Didn't check out bathrooms. Lots of parking. Ball diamonds. Fishing available in river or side canal. Large shade trees, plenty of benches. Trash receptacles. We walked our dog on the boardwalk, saw many people enjoying this park, and saw small wildlife-birds, fish, ducks, geese, squirrels, and many people walking their dogs. Highly recommend this excellent local park.
