lackawanna state park

I wanted to make it a point to spend more time outdoors this summer. So I've been exploring the state parks in my area. Lackawanna is a very pretty park. I sat under a tree near the lake reading my Kindle and just enjoyed being outside.It's not hard to find. I stopped at an Environment Education Center on my way and took some pretty pictures of surrounding mountains. Pack a lunch, or take stuff to grill, and spend the day outdoors!

This state park is great. The campground is well kept and bathroom is clean. Fishing can be great or difficult depending on when you fish it. I know the pool was closed in spring this year but in years past it was kept clean and clear. My kids love this park and so do I.

Difinitly not a place for kids. They have one playground down by the lake of which you can only look at but can't swim in. A round pool ( under construction so not usable) and you can rent kayaks and paddle boats. The loops have very heavy wooded spots and no place to sit in the sun and there is no beach area, just grass with bees and goose poop. Yes you can hike but that takes up all of a few hours. NY residents have to pay more, we didn't know that so believe me we stay in NY from now on. No senior discount and can't fish without a PA fishing license. Thumbs down!

What a lovely park. We didn't camp here (though it appears you can do that quite nicely!) but had a very enjoyable time. The lake is lovely. They have facilities (restrooms) and a nice easy walking trail (paved) as well as 'hike' trails for those more experienced. It's spread out nicely so even on a busy day like today when there are lots of people there enjoying the boating, fishing, nature, picnicing -- it still doesn't seem crowded. Great to just relax and breathe the air and enjoy watching the people enjoy nature or get out your boat or fishing pole and get in the mix ! (The dock by the boat ramp allows for ease of access for fishing, too) This is a very pleasant spot. Oh - the pool isn't open at this time (late spring) -- one of the regulars said that they were updating it and it would be closed for a while.

One of our favorite campgrounds in Pennsylvania. Lots of wooded sites so you are sure to find one you like. Some with power and some without. They close off a couple of the areas/loops in the fall but still plenty of great sites to pick from. They also have yurts. Bathrooms are clean and up to date. Showers are clean and free with nice hot water. The lake couldn't be better for kayaks and canoes. The grounds are well maintained and any interaction with Rangers/Staff has been very pleasant. Easy to access off major highways. We definatley will be camping there again.

I have been to this place many times over the years, so I speak from long experience in all four seasons (available are winter snow shoeing, spring and summer fishing and/or camping, fall hiking and leaf-peeping). There is nothing to complain about this park, except they may run out of camping sites on summer holidays. I have been fortunate to be able to enjoy this park on its quieter days. It's small enough to not get overwhelmed but big enough to find a lot of different activities for many people I strongly urge anyone who has not been there to go and get a park brochure and map and learn which of your fav things are available for you to enjoy (especially locals who are just a short drive away and don't need a planned vacation to go).

My family has camped here for several years..usually in Oct and it is a beautiful time of year and a very nice park.. Plenty of trails, not so good for biking as the sites are up a very steep long hills, but very scenic and surrounding towns very quaint. The younger ones usually go to Roba's for the corn maze and right around the cirner is Manning's ice cream .....not to miss . ... homemade right at the farm.

We stayed here in August from Saturday - Sunday. This is a very quiet and clean state campground. There are no crowds in the area we chose - Fox Run. A few campers here and there but as you go to the area without electricity there are fewer and fewer people utilizing the sites. The sites on the outside are very spread out. We camped with our tent on Site 63 - it is on a downward slope but they made a clearing down a little trail -- so we set up our cooking area by the fire and enjoyed the little separation from our tent. Next to us through some trees was another site but there was no one there. It felt like we were in our own campground... and that was Saturday night. By Sunday it felt like we had the entire park to ourselves! There is plenty to do here at this park. It is an excellent place for kayaking. Nice hiking trails right from your campsite - go one way you hit the dam and a pretty waterfall or go the other way and you come across an enchanting pond - go down and you hit the lake! Also there is a nice pool that we did not utilize for we were on our hike but the water felt warm and was very inexpensive. There are nice picnic grounds, too. Bathhouse is very basic but the toilet flushes and shower spurts out hot water. Good enough for a few nights!Highly recommend a two or so night trip to this great State Park.

My husband LOVES camping. I do not. I love being in nature and enjoying quiet times outdoors, so I compromised by renting a cabin in the campground. The cabin is clean and accommodating with four built-in bunkbeds. It has a porch and electricity. No private bathroom, but I was able to deal with the camping experience with the features provided. The state park itself is amazing and boasts a beautiful lake, boat rentals, picnic grounds, and an olympic size swimming pool. This is a great affordable vacation for families.We also peered in the window of a yurt, and they look amazing with a full mini-kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, and stove). The only problem is that the campsites are close to each other so neighbors are plentiful but don't really bother you. You can book your cabin (around $40 per nite) or tent site online.
