this is a wonderful location for the young children to visit ... it is a location which offers interesting learning opportunities with other children their age ...
The Children's Museum is a wonderful place for a child to explore the world. We enjoyed it with a b-day party group of children age 3-10 and everyone had a wonderful time. The down side of it is that the price is expensive for a family or even one parent and several kids.
The Children's Museum in Bloomsburg is a pretty cool little museum, especially for young children (under 10 or so - older children would most likely find it boring in this electronic gadget age). This museum allows children to touch and explore the displays rather than just looking at things from a distance. The "theme" here is to provide learning experiences in a fun manner, and I think they achieve this. There is a very interesting, "Native peoples of PA" exhibit as well as many other interesting displays, which you can walk thru, touch and explore. This museum is definitely worth a visit, especially on a rainy day or a gloomy Winter day when you are in the mood to take your children or grand-children somewhere different where they may actually LEARN something!
Took the grandchildren and they had a wonderful time with all the exhibits. Many interesting and educational opportunities. Both adults and children alike had a great time!
We visit here with the grandchildren. It is a hands-on museum, and has exhibits available for all ages. During the school year, they have a time when you can take children ages 2 and under to explore the museum. They shut off the lower level, and the little ones have free range of the upper level. They have a theme for each session, like sound, art, music, etc. so the children get to explore different things. During the summer they have summer camps in which children can learn and explore different ideas. My grandson enjoyed the art camp last summer. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This is a great museum for young children. One you would never expect to find in a small town in NEPA. Our grandson loves the place and can't wait for his next visit. Highly recommended.
A lot of museums are "Hands-off", but not this one. The kids can touch just about everything, from dressing up in period costumes or sitting in a one room schoolhouse, walking through the coal mine, or the Egyptian Display. They can learn about history of the area, or just play with the pneumatic actuators to move a ball around. Learning is not boring at this museum. Both of my kids played with the Amadinda, making music for almost an hour alone. You will quickly wonder where 3-4 hours went, and your kids weren't asking you for anything!
Whoever writes all of the excellent reviews obviously works for this establishment. The first big room is basically the same toys you would see at any average daycare, with the added flair of a few synthetic trees and stuffed wildlife. The "science" half of the building is not even close to being interesting for any child. I don't know many toddlers who want to learn about diabetes and the history of immigration and the coal industry. Bottom line is if you have to try to persuade your kids to have fun and be interested, then the place isn't very fun and interesting. Many of the exhibits are based around "dress up" or crafts, so unless your kids plan on sitting in one spot for 15+minutes and repeating this procedure..they will be bored out of their mind. So we basically drove 40+ miles to play with a Train table....yay:)
I took my 9, soon to be 10, son and his friend to the Children's Museum. Although I was concerned that the children were too old for this museum, they had a lot of fund and learned a bit from their visit. We spend there an hour and a half but the kids could easily play for up to 3 hours. Great educational environment.
We attended a first birthday party here last year. The party was in their back room and the children could play in the museum the entire time. The activities were fun for all.
My wife kids and I were staying overnight in Bloomsburg to visit Knobles. It was hot that day so I decided to suggest this after seeing it on a county tourism site. My kids are 3 and 7, both girls. They had a fantastic time there and want to go back again. It's small, but really not that small, a lot of stuff to do and play with. We live outside of Philly so we've been to the Please Touch Museum and the Franklin Institute but honestly I liked this place even more.
Awesome! KIds like to spend time there! They didnt want to leave! It's our favorite place to go this summer!
The Children's Museum adds a great deal to the culture of our town and is a wonderful asset staffed almost entirely by selfless volunteers. The exhibits change regularly and are always worthwhile for kids and adults alike. Long live the Children's Museum!
I would definitely take a Saturday and play with the kids at this location. The Children's Museum is staffed by EXCELLENT folks, the exhibits are totally engaging for all ages and the price is right. Don't pass up the opportunity to play here, volunteer at AGAPE next door and then go have a bit of a gym day at the YMCA for a bit of BBALL as a perfect day of fun, service, and self care. All with your car sitting in the same parking lot. A definite do again and again and again!
We tend to go once or twice a year. This is a frequent stop for birthday parties as well. They have static and rotationing exhibits. All are hands-on and educational. The kids never seem to grow tired of the place!
