If you are into the weird and unusual - visit the House on the Rock. The views from the infinity room were beautiful. If you have any claustrophobic tendencies this is not the place to visit.

They need to think of the customer more,so they might give more favorable reviews . There needs to be a place where the people can take a break outside& then return to the tour.It is NOT enough to wait til you see the house or visa verse. The whole experience would be a whole lot more enjoyable for all.Charles Edsall

I used to take 5th grade classes to this place just so that they could experience the miniature houses after we had studied architecture. That wowed them as did the train displays, world's largest carousel, the guns (including one hidden in a wooden leg), cash registers, and the "Infinity Room" which has to be experienced to be believed. The list goes on and on.... This started out as a house and became one of the most eclectic museums I've ever seen. If you're over 60, you may want to check with the docent to see which parts you want to see. It can be a stretch to cover it all. Not all parts are handicapped accessible which is a consideration too. Did I mention the giant whale?

I love this place and have gone back every 4/5 years since I was 10 (I am now 40). Here is a test to figure out if the HOTR is for you:True or False: I would rather drive 30 miles out of my way to see 1,000 mostly well done fake firearms in a unique and colorful setting than 100 real firearms in an organized, marble-floored museum.After walking through a dusty, slightly mold-smelling warehouse filled with random items for 3-hours, I (would/would not) be thrilled to see a collection of well done fake suits of armor displayed in a life-sized diorama depicting a medieval battle between elephants.$29.95 is (too much/about right) to see a collection of collections purchased and built by a slightly obsessed man over 50 years and currently displayed in a series of poorly-lit and dusty buildings that have little to no continuity.There is no key to the test.I look at the HOTR as the best road-side attraction and most questionable museum i've ever visited. Its the work of a man that loved collecting odd things and found a unique way to show them off. There are massive rooms filled with poorly made objects...but some are authentic antiques...and some are not...and you cannot tell! It doesnt have a straight or level hallway, smells like dust and mold, does not seem to end and elicits the most wonderful collection of positive and negative reviews you will find on TripAdvisor. It may be the most uniquely American place i've ever been.

This place was like a slow death. It started out okay, pictures on a wall with little tid bits of info, a nice little garden followed by the infinity room. Then it just got weird. Like Alice in Wonderland weird. Who thinks of a half woman half frog and who would even enjoy that or think its neat? Then there were all these dolls and dollhouses, a large shark, which had to be Megaladon, and also the smell of pizza when you were near the kitchen. They probably have the kitchen near the end of the second part so people get sucked in and want pizza so they pay for the next section.During the third section, it got a little congested. Probably because people couldn't wait to get out. There was an old man acting like a 12 year old pervert pointing out the half naked women statutes that were going around on a merry go round.All I wanted to do was get out. It was like there was a fire and I couldn't move because so many people in front of me were trying to get away from the fire as well.

I love the House on the Rock. As a young boy I actually crawled up a ladder from the ground under the great rock formation, into the house while it was under construction. I used to lay in that little couch that's built into the limestone wall. When first built this wasn't a tourist attraction. It was a privately owned "cabin" that had wonderful views of the Wisconsin River valley. In the years after the owner aged beyond the point where the cabin's initial utility was of value to him, the use and look of the place changed quickly. This is a venue that people should investigate fully, before deciding to go and see it. Understand before you go that it's basically a museum of unusual things, and that most of what you'll see has very little to do with the "House on the Rock," itself. I highly recommend the House on the Rock. For most who will see it, the entire facility is fascinating and wonderful.

Went a little out of our way to stop here on our cross country move and we're glad we did! We only got to see a couple of the "rooms", but if you can, go when you have a full day to check it all out. Totally worth the visit...if you like huge eclectic collections! Would definitely stop there again should we drive back across the country!

Yikes! This has to be one of the STRANGEST attractions I've ever seen in my life! The first part of the tour starts out okay ... until you reach the "cave house" built by the owner as revenge toward Frank Lloyd Wright's house across the way! Anyway, the house is very claustrophobic, dark, dank, and musty. It didn't take long for me to peek around and get out!Then we migrated to the "collection" part of the attraction. Wow! At first glance, the place is magical, enchanting, and exciting. Then begins the never-ending trek through endless pieces of stuff! At first the collection is mesmerizing, e.g. all the "grand pianos" throughout the exhibit! Being a professional pianist, I paid close attention to these. And very shortly realized -- almost all of the pianos are FAKE. What??? Yes. There are a few that are real "player pianos," but the remainder are just props made from plywood. Look closely -- you'll see.That was disappointing, to say the least! So I started looking more closely at other exhibits. After awhile, I felt I was on this "Alice in Wonderland' type journey -- going further down the rabbit hole with no way out! This place is not for the faint of heart, nor for those who have any physical disabilities that would hinder one from walking a few miles through this endless maze.After awhile, we were just dazed and bewildered! We FINALLY found our way to a restroom, an unmanned sandwich & drink counter, and were thrilled! We searched and found an employee who would serve us drinks and snacks, so we were able to sit down for a few minutes and rest our weary legs. Then onward and upward and downward and backward and off we went -- through the endless circles and loops of things and more things. I swear -- the path makes you circle some of the same carousels at least 4 times! Then the hike to get OUT is another exhausting trek which drops you into a gift shop. And another long foray to find your way back to your vehicle.Bottom line - would NOT go back there for any reason!!! It's way over-rated as to its quality and interest. And it's EXPENSIVE!!

We had lots of Fun & exciting visit to " The House on the Rock " ! Being there is like in an ancient world where you can see lots of things from the old era . I tried to look closely to everything that my eyes can see from flowering plants , trees , trains, automobiles , planes & buildings and a lot more !!! Being in the Infinity room was so marvelous .... I recommend this place for your next visit ....

In my 40 years on this earth I have been to House on the Rock 5 different times. If you have read the story of Alex Jordan, he would walk around the House incognito. My very first trip we had the pleasure of running into Mr. Jordan at the time, I was 10 years old and couldn't take my eyes off of each display. The Mikado has always been my favorite since the first time I had laid eyes on it. Why did we think Mr. Jordan was with us on our adventure? I would beg my father to play each and every display but he was frugal. This old man had followed us throughout the house and played each display for us and would ask us "what do you like about this one" or would have a large smile when our weird family would sing along with a tune. Yes, it has a very random, eclectic mixture of collections and displays. That was the best for our family, those of us that didn't like dolls could look at the jewels or the ivory statues. We had went before there were gardens and it was only the house and a few displays and I would be happy to keep going back to that original place that always holds a dear spot in my heart. Yes, it is a bit pricey for admission but if you get there early enough you can spend your entire day.

I visited this place a long time ago, but it was awesome! I liked the different rooms that showed all the different collections. A great place to go. They also have the room called "The Infinity Room" part of it stretches out over the mountains and it looks like you could see foreverIf you're ever in this area, this is a place to see!!

wow, I live in spring green and have been to House on the Rock many times - even worked there as a teen. still a great place to go and I always recommend it to travelers. you wont be disappointed. plan for a long day the tour takes hours.

This is one of those attractions that is a must see, because if the place is described to you the description will not do it justice. My wife and I travel often and rank this place as one of the best. It's kind of out in the middle of farmland Wisconsin, but when you find it you wont be disappointed.

It's eccentric. It's quirky. It has its own charm. It is definitely worth the trip. It is really a "must see" if you are in the area. Would definitely recommend it if you are in the area, even if it's a day trip for a couple hours.

I went to house on the rock over 20 years ago and decided it would be fun to come back now with my husband and kids. Great experience! Some of the collections were strange and somewhat creepy, but that is part of this place's charm. The carousel is amazing! We plan to make another trip in the summer to see the Japanese garden.
