If you are lucky enough to be in Alma in the fall, you may see the swans in the Lake beside the park. The Mississippi is on the other side and there may be a few in the backwaters there too. Of course there are always eagles...also beautiful.
Small little park along the river, great for get away and lots of fisherman stay here with their trailers..Honor system with showers and real bathrooms at the other end of park, portapotties in park...playground for children and shelters for events..
If you're enjoying the Great River Road or making some stops in Alma (I recommend Buena Vista Overlook and Castle Rock Museum) then certainly this is a worthwhile stop. Whereas Buena Vista is grand scenery, this is grand nature. The tundra swans you can view make this an interesting and worthwhile stop. There's a deck with the viewfinders (free). You can take in those nesting geese closeup vs. afar and the many ducks that swim by and of course the tundra swans. There's a nice play area for the kids on one end of the park. It makes for a nice worthwhile quick stop right along the way.
cheap camping, the bathrooms are a little scary. The place is really filling in with weeds fast. A pretty ok playground.
I come here with friends every once in a while whether its just to hang out at the Play equipment, or for Birthday parties. During camping season, the camping area is usually FULL of campers and tents. But most come to the Park to look at the Tundra Swans.
