We really liked Bearcats. We were amazed at the various smoked and fresh fish available. The smoked salmon was awesome and the best we have had. We brought a lot of fish home. They will smoke, freeze and wrap your fish for a nominal fee. Don't miss Bearcats Fish House.
As you drive around Wisconsin there are many smoked fish outlets. This is my favorite by far. Bearcat not only has a a wide variety of seafood freshwater and salt. But they smoke the fish fresh daily. It is not the heavy dry smoking that you often get - great flavor and moist. Prices are good for the going rates on smoked fish. I found some metwaurst sausage and can not wait to try it. It has been over 20 years since I have had this. What a free find on top of the great fish. Staff is awesome and service is great. You will not regret stopping if you are passing thru Algoma.
Fine selection of smoked fish. Courteous and knowledgeable staff. Best smoked fish we have had in a long time.
This is a true fish house to purchase fish. Nothing fancy but it is more of an old time grocery store for fresh and smoked fish. They do have some extra items so you could put together a simple picnic if visiting the area. We love the smoked salmon and always purchase some when visiting the area. It is not inexpensive here but it is very good.
I happened to stop in to Bearcat Smokehouse and I will again the next time I pass thru Algoma. They ship but I was able to get fresh fish there. They were very friendly and told me about the area. This is some of the best smoked fish I have had. I wish they were closer. I highly recommend stopping by!
If you like fish, you can probably find whatever you're looking for at Bearcat's which is located by on Highway 42 by the bridge in Algoma. Out of their tiny shop, they sell both fresh and frozen items. I find it fascinating to wander around the shop just to see what they offer. Besides for fish, I've seen jams, spices, Baumeister soda, and even some souvenir items. Be prepared to have your purchases wrapped in paper - they do it the old fashioned way!
