Situated in some of the remaining original huts in furthermost regions of the municipal airfield , this small museum records its role during world war 2 as a training base, the short lived home of the Tuskeegee airmen, and then a flight evaluation centre for captured Luftwaffe aircraft. Exhibits include a selection of personal memorabilia and uniforms from the period together with photographs and models of the strange and bizarre experimental German aircraft acquired by the allies towards the end of the conflict. They were evaluated at Seymour before being moved onto other airfields or museums. Those that stayed were destroyed and buried around the airfield. All that is left of them is a collection of remains that have been dug up around the site over the years. In addition there is an aircraft training simulator of the time and the airfield fire engine beautifully restored to its original condition. The museum is run by a small but very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly group of people who are only too pleased to share the history of the airfield with anyone who stops by. However, given the limited number of supporters and remoteness of the museum, it is only normally open every Saturday morning. But if you have the chance, it is well worth the nominal fee for a visit.
