My family and I love taking walks here. The scenery along the river is beautiful. It was great to get back out here. Can't wait until the flowers are blooming!
Walk along the St. Joseph River. Quiet and peaceful. The ripple of the flowing river splashing on the bank. You may even want to bring along a fishing rod. Only watch out for duck feces. Need a few more restroom facilities.
We've heard that there are issues in terms of accessibility. If that's true, it's a shame, because this is one of the most pleasant parks we've visited. It was a lovely fall afternoon and we strolled some 45 minutes. We enjoyed that first visit so much, we've been back several times since. We recommend it.
We walked the Riverwalk twice during our stay. We loved watching the wildlife and the beautiful river. During our first walk we enjoyed listening to the music of a live band. Definitely worth experiencing!
This was a nice find on a recent trip to the area. You can park and walk through several city parks for a very long time along a very nice walkway that includes bridges over the river. There are some really nice views and attractions along the way. There are only a couple of restrooms available for use along the way.Although we never felt unsafe, they also had a security cart that went around which was a nice touch.
Mishawaka has long taken pride in its parks, but the Riverwalk takes it to a new level. Actually linking several parks on both sides of the river, it is a broad, well lit, and beautifully landscaped series of walkways and bridges. Features include a series of little waterfalls that connect with the race and the river, a beautifully designed pedestrian bridge at the center, Kamm Island park with its trees and grassy areas, a restored WPA project and Bandshell, Kate's Garden, the fish ladder, playground...all along one of the most beautiful rivers in the country. Walk it, ride your bike, jog, roller skate, or just take in the peaceful beauty. There are multiple restaurants just a block or so off The Riverwalk, especially on the south side. Caution: there are multiple Candadian geese that also love the Riverwalk, so be careful where you step. The city does a good job of clean up, but it's hard to keep up.
Our city of Mishawaka, even though currently embroiled in an untenable 20 million dollar civil rights disability discrimination lawsuit, continues to construct walkways, boat ramps, stairs, seating, parking, picnic and playground areas that will serve those without mobility disabilities well. These new works are grossly out of compliance with the Access Board's Architectural Requirements. The "riverwalk" has over 12,600 forensically documented architectural barriers. If you have any mobility disabilities, you need to take this riverwalk seriously. There are many, many architectural barriers that will place you in imminent peril. From stepping over the edge of an improper walk and falling into the river, or stumbling into the oncoming traffic. Because the concrete construction and curb cuts are sub-standard, the cross slopes and rises are too steep, too steep, and too steep, take every step very cautiously. When our Mayor and city council seem to construct everything from roadways to parkways with the intent on driving out all of us with impairments, its no wonder people call our town a Disabled Free Zone.
There is not much better on a warm evening than walking along the river listening to the water, and watching the assortment of flora and fauna all around. It's nice for a stroll, but it is somewhat limited. There are a few restaurants around etc, but its something you almost have to plan for as far as, driving there, and parking, then walking, and walking back. There isn't too many places close enough to walk to the Riverwalk from eating either, unless you really want a bit more of a hike. So, it's beautiful when its warm (not too bad in the winter either) but it's not quite like walking along the river in downtown South Bend where you are a block in any direction from a great place to eat, park, shop etc at any moment.
Was a very pleasant place to walk. Very clean. Felt safe. Would recommend this to others. Free. Close to downtown & places to eat.
