These are also called the Needles. Very Scenic and Very Beautiful! You can hike right into the middle of them. You can climb around on them if you want. The pine smell if great and you have fantastic views
This is a 3 mile (in and out) moderate trail that falls short of the other trails in the area. Don’t get me wrong it a nice hike, but it just doesn’t have the vistas of Harney or Little Devil’s Tower Trails. The park rates the trail strenuous but I think that is a little ambitious for this trail.
This is an awesome hike with a ton of natures beauty. The hike will have you amazed at Cathedral Spires! A fun place to take nice picture! It is a hike recommend to go by yourself or with a group. It is great for all ages, I went with a group with a five year old and she was able to hike it by herself. If you are looking for a place in the Black Hills this is a great place to start, many trails connect up to this one if this hike isn't long enough.
We did not hike the trail. It was a bit cool and windy. The area is stunning and worth stopping for a photo op.
Beautiful quick and easy hike. Beautiful spires everywhere and we had some snow which made it more impressive. Only came across one other couple, so it's nice to hike and be by yourself in this awesome place.
wonderful veiws, some parts of the hike are nice, some are chalenging. Overall if you like to hike, DO IT, you wont regret it. We LOVE the Black Hills area.
This trail is not for those that don't like a good challenge. At times we thought we lost the trail, only to see the little blue markers at what didn't look like a trail at all. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to get surprised by some wildlife (we saw one small snake). Bring plenty of water with you! You can connect to the Little Devil's Tower Trail from this trail.
We didn't make it all the way through the trail but it still was a lot of fun. Bring plenty of bug spray, the flies are horrible out there.
This was a challenging and rewarding hike. We took our 8 and 11 year old kids and never felt unsafe with the trail. The only drawback is that the end of trail view was not great. Lover's Leap was better.
It's a okay short family hike... But you haven't seen nearly anything until you hike the little Devils tower trail that connects to this trail. My recommendation, skip this hike because the view isn't even good. At little Devils tower, the views are nearly that of harney peak and you even get to walk THROUGH the spires. But yes, it is much more strenuous and steep in spots.. Maybe not for the little ones, which is where the cathedral spires trail is nice.
Great hike with great views. While it does say strenuous, my 4 year old who is used to hiking once a month or so, did awesome on it.
This trail is a popular place to hike but a seasonal area. It is cool to see the hikers and Spires climbers. We just did some simple hiking. Check the weather before you go.
Set out on the trail with my husband, 3 kids ages 6,9,11- It was a challenge towards the end and we didn't make it all the way up, but got most of the way. Very pretty. Definitely recommend. If I wasn't such a chicken, we probably would have made it up there. Got some gorgeous pictures.
We ventured on this hike with a 9 year old and a 4 year old. It was fun, great exercise, and some of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen!!
Short Trail. Worth the hike. It was cold and rainy the day we visited, but we hiked to the top anyway. Wish we could have seen the view, bu the hike was good anyway.
