:The building are in Good repair , and the way that is all set up puts you right back in time .its a great 2 hr outing to burn off some stored up energy. and break up the CORN fields.
I don't think you need to be a farmer to find this place interesting. It's not mind blowing, but a cool look into the past.
I have seen young and old really enjoy the various displays. There is an original claim shanty in there, that one family lived in and had 2 children in before they had to fine a larger house, it is one room! And it is furnished with antiques such a s were used at the time. Also old machinery, a nice variety of things there. L:ovely gift shop also, with unusual things.
If restored farm machinery is your thing, this place can't be beat. The restorations are amazing. There are exhibits of farm life from the past and a very helpful staff that will answer any questions you might have. It's not a big museum but it is a fine one!
This is a quaint museum where you will get some feel for the history and times of growing up in rural South Dakota.
Whether you're from South Dakota or South America, it's likely that US agriculture has in some way impacted your life. The South Dakota State Agricultural Heritage Museum is a wonderful journey through the history of US agriculture and insight into how modern civilization is possible. The displays are carefully detailed and include everything from plows and tractors to domestic upkeep of the early 20th century farm. In addition to displays more suited to the reminiscing adult, the museum includes a number of activities and attractions to keep children busy. Staff at the museum are always friendly and informative. Before coming to Brookings you may also wish to call the museum and check into any upcoming events held in the museum or on its grounds. After your visit you should also stop into the Ag Museum Gift Shop to see all of the great gifts, including South Dakota made crafts and food products. I recommend the museum to anybody visiting or living in Brookings. It's a hidden treasure on the SDSU campus!
Took our grandson tothe Ag Heritage Museum. He marveled at the big machines we used to use to farm, and got to milk a simulated cow withrubber udders, but it produced liquid. Also got to grind corn and gather eggs. Enjoyable labors.
Fantastic displays. Loved the "smell" - very authentic.
