The parking lot and exterior of this place are showing lots of age, as several reviewers have noted, but the interior is pleasant enough. I don’t bowl anymore myself (problem shoulder and knee), but I do like to watch the action from time to time. I did that at Anchor Lanes last Saturday morning and really enjoyed myself. Although fewer than half the lanes were in use, there was still a busy vibe to the place and the families, couples, and singles were having a good time. Several tables were set up for kiddie birthday parties (see photos).
There was one off the clock employee who tried to help us with our constantly malfunctioning lanes, but after he left, it was like pulling teeth to get any help. After the befuddled employee couldn't get our lane to keep score at all anymore, we decided to leave and asked for our money back for our partial game that we couldn't finish. We were treated like we were trying to swindle THEM and accused of having played more games than we claimed. I hate to say the staff was completely inept, because the one young man, whose name i regret not getting, did try to help us DESPITE being off the clock, even telling us that they should switch the lanes we were on, but aside from this young man, its a wonder the place is able to remain open with the way the staff treats the customers. And my chagrin is NOT over the measly 3 dollars back per person we were asking for. I would have gladly payed ANOTHER 3 dollars per game, to have been able to play somewhere that I can go more than 4 frames without having to wait 5-10 minutes for an employee to fix the equipment at the end of the lane. Save yourself the disappointment, and go to one of Columbia's other bowling alleys.
A few of us 30 year olds decided to go bowling at Anchor Lanes. This used to be the place we'd go for birthday parties back in highschool. Still pretty fun. Things seem a little dated and it looks scary from outside. But we had fun once we were inside. They even made a fresh batch of popcorn and brought it to us when it was available.
I recently had a company outing at Anchor Lanes. The service was excellent, the catered food was very good. Everyone that worked there was very helpful to out group of 30 people. I highly recommend this place for a good time with your friends, family, and co-workers!
the facility is close to 25 years old-but has been maintained quite well. very clean-friendly service. they have leagues and childrens specials during the summer days. Nice to see an old classic game still doing well. restaurant and shop are located in the facility.
WE love to bowl althouh we are not very good . WE have been very please with the staff and food at Anchor Lanes. You may want to bring your own ball some of the house ball have seen their better days.
This is a nice, laid back bowling establishment. The usually always have lanes open and available. The food is also pretty good.
You don't have to just bowl when you go there. There are other things you can do. Pricing is average.
