The old Academy founded by Sister Joseph. Has been a convent, a school and now houses several small restaurants and has a huge room for wedding receptions. You are allowed to wander some of the halls and get the feel of history.
Part of Vancouver's proud history, the building is on the historic list. But like a lot the surrounding historic area it's waiting around for some big purpose. Inside there 's a café, studio, gallery and office space. There is a beautiful little chapel to get married in and a adjoining hall for receptions an the like but other than that its' just an old building on hold. a sleeping beauty.
This is one of the most historic, original, and historic buildings left in Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A. It dates back to about 1873 and was one of the original buildings of the Catholic Church designed and built with the help of many others by Mother Joseph, Sisters of Providence. It was the convent for the Sisters of Providence and also an all girls Catholic school. The all girls Academy graduating girls from high school, was closed in 1962. Since that time it has become a building of offices. However, the chapel is still original and is open for weddings. The Fort Vancouver MAIN Public Library is across the street on Evergreen St. and C Street. They just gave a one hour tour on Friday, July 26, 2013. It would be great to take the one hour tour.
The wedding chapel is upstairs so if stairs are a problem you may have mobility issues. The charm of this place is the architecture and the way they have preserved the original feel of the school.
The best part of the Academy is Windsor Weddings at the Academy. Manager Vicki Greenleaf will make sure your wedding is beautiful and memorable. The chapel is beautiful and acoustics beyond compare. Photos come out fabulous with the interior design. Be sure to listen for the big bells ring after the nuptials...you can't hear them from inside but you can outside.
Very cool old historic building... nice landscape, Not much to do there though...
Great place for a wedding ceremony. We have photographs from a few weddings at the academy on our website at [-]
