The Chinese Reconciliation Park is an attempt to reconcile Tacoma's history of mistreatment of its Chinese citizens with today's acceptance of cultural diversity, recognizing that if this history is denied or hidden there can be no healing.Using art and simple story boards the "Tacoma Method" of dealing with its unwanted Chinese residents by forcible removal and destruction of property in 1885 is portrayed very effectively and dramatically.

my 8 yr old and I were looking for the perfect place to have a pic-nick, yes this is no 5mile trail but this little park had it all, a perfect hill to seat and have a pic-nick with not an overwhelming amount of bee's and flowers, there is ocean view, of course the little Chinese monument with a little of history along the site, the train that passes in the background, if you walk a little further there is a mini sandy beach and rentals for stand up paddle, you can walk or ride a bike and even bring your pet. We loved it!!

A few years ago, I attended the dedication ceremony for this park, which commemorates the 1885 expulsion of Chinese Americans from Tacoma. Some 350 people were marched to the train station at gunpoint, their homes burned, and their property confiscated. A shameful chapter in Washington history. Please visit this part and the temple, a joint project of Tacoma and the Chinese government. And never forget what happened and what we are capable of when we surrender to our worst instincts.

Great little park in a great, but not great location. I say that because you never can tell about the waterfront in the evenings. There are lots of teens and hoodlums that loiter about (regardless of cops driving through often) and I would not be surprised if your car did get broken into. But its a great locale also, due to the summer activities in the summer. There are tons of festivals, boating events, ect right there off Ruston Way. During the day there are plenty of people enjoying the water, the park and the views. The park features great photo opps and a perfect view of the sunset. There's a large donated structure called Fuzhou Ting that can be rented for weddings, events, ect. Its really beautiful. There are statues and art pieces throughout with bits of history written out for you to learn. I definitely recommend visiting.

Went here after having a nice day in Tacoma. Spent 10 minutes seeing the whole thing. Not much background info and when we returned to the car our rental had the passenger window broken and things stolen from the car. Tacoma police were great Found the purse via find my iPhone app and there help.

As sad as the message is with this park, it is well planned out and gives its message straightforward, leaving you decide how and why Tacoma removed its Chinese residents. I found its simplicity powerful and thoughtful. It's nice I see a park like this and perhaps it will help us learn and heal by bringing to everyone's attention. It's hard to find, but as soon as you go over the bridge, you will need to take a left and go back under the bridge, which is where the parking is located.

Came here on a lark, and we were impressed! Great informational signs and the park is so pretty. Places to hide out and picnic, and beautiful scenic views. Go there!

On 3 November 1885 in a sordid act the city of Tacoma forcefully removed its Chinese population. The Chinese Reconciliation Park is a newly constructed and long overdue park which serves as a reminder and acknowledgement of that event. It’s a lovely spot on Puget Sound – quiet, serene and a wonderful place to watch the sunset over the Olympic Mountains. It’s not a huge park but wonderfully designed, with gravel paths, standing stones, grassy slopes, benches, bridges and of course the beach. At the eastern end is a Ting which was donated by the City of Fuzhou, China. All the materials came from Fuzhou and the Ting was completed in 2011. It’s a wonderful place to sit and read or visit with friends. There is a small parking lot underneath the overpass as well as many other parking spots along the waterfront and in Old Town. For a great afternoon pick a sunny day, go for a nice long walk along the waterfront and have a bite to eat along the way. Head for the Reconcilation Park in the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset. Wonderful!
