I really like small town museumsThe people that volunteer at them have a personal interest. This place is a very good museum and the people are very knowledgeable Will definitely go back here
This is wonderful as it truly lays out the history of the Long Beach Penesula. It works from the discovery of the region by native Americans to Lewis & Clarkto & the growth of the community to the imact of the railway to life saving in the area. They run special shows and have a great gift shop. This is a not miss when visiting the area.
This is a very small local museum. It is easy to walk through in under an hour. I would have liked to see more on the history of the area. They have old train cars from the railroad that use to run through the area.
I thought this would be a hokey tourist attraction, but it was a great learning experience. I learned about shipwrecks, the Coast Guard, life on a lightship, and nautical history. The exhibits were interesting and the museum is bigger than it looks. Best thing to do in Astoria!
Museum featuring exhibits of pre-western settlement Indian life, early settlement, and railroad development/history
While small, this museum was a delight. Much of the area's history is thoughtfully displayed along with special displays during certain periods. Be sure to check their website to find out what is being displayed.
Mainly focuses on trains, Native American history, and logging. Very well put together. Usually my 3 kids get antsy, but even they were pretty entertained by this museum. They loved the model railroad and the model houses. Something for everyone, and their shop has local artists and crafts to buy. $5 for each adult and free for children 12 and under... I think they had a senior discount, also.
It was windy and rainy at the coast this weekend but we didn't want to be cooped up in our hotel so we started looking for something to do...Luckily we found the Museum. Its not huge but has so much to offered and is a great place to visit.Well worth a stop.
Anything and everything you ever wanted to know about the are of Long Beach and in particular the ships that sank off the coast!
The Columbia-Pacific Heritage Museum is a quality museum, concentrating on the local heritage of the lower Columbia area. You would not expect this in such a small community.
the museum was great when we visited it last year they had a huge quilt collection, they were absolutely stunning. they also have a history of the railroad that was on the coast in Long beach.
Very interesting. This area is one of the oldest in USA. Lewis & Clark came in 1805 but that man Astor was only 5 years later in starting his money making machine so there is lots to take in apart from the Native American stuff
it is a short hike to the top of this butte where there is a facimile of Lewis and clark's map of the over look, a modern map and the view. Also a shore artillery battery from the WWI era coastal defenses. There is also a battery at the Lewis and Clark interpretive center, which is also in Ft Canby State Park and is a must see. This is the first place I take out of town visitors.
We own a Vacation Rental in Seaview,Wa and the Heritage Museum is a must for the passing travelers. The Long Beach Peninsula is filled with history and the Heritage Museum does a great job at preserving and displaying historical artifacts. That is why we make a point in recommending this place.
We've visited several times and attended receptions there, always take out of town visitors there. It gets better each year
