The extensiveness of the museum was a welcome surprise. There is a large quantity of indian artifacts, pictures and history. The pioneer village assembled from locations around the county were interesting and pleasant to walk around. All in all a very pleasant and educational experience.
Anytime we travel, we take the time to tour museums. This one is exceptional. Takes you way back to when Cashmere was settled, old farm equipment, waterwheel, outhouse, and interesting displays all over. It is outdoors to the village, so if it is chily, take a light jacket. We were there in May and it was just perfect
My husband and I were visiting Leavenworth for 2 days in late July and when we got a little tired of it, we drove to Cashmere. What a pleasant surprise! The town is very pretty with very attractive cottage homes around the downtown area. The museum is the top attraction for miles around. The displays cover a wide variety of things and contain some first class artifacts, including a mammoth bone. There are many displays of beautiful Indian bead work. In back of the museum is a very complete pioneer village of authentic buildings from the area. We spent about 3 fascinating hours in this museum and could have spent even more time.
If you come here in the summer you absolutely must come earlier in the day, since Wenatchee/Leavenworth/Cashmere are very hot. However, if you get the outdoor portion done first, the indoors are nice and air-conditioned with an elaborate set of rooms set apart for artifacts, minerals/geological finds, antiques, etc. We always find something new that we never saw before. Huge gift shop with mostly all-volunteers. They have really stepped up expectations for seeing anything like this again. Every little building is stuffed with creatively arranged antiques, many donated by old local families whose ancestors once owned the buildings. So lovingly kept and maintained considering the needs they have for money to keep these collected local buildings in repair. I think that we could even travel past Leavenworth, the big attraction/town next door to Cashmere, and feel perfectly fulfilled in a visit to Casmere alone--and we love Leavenworth.
This place is amazing. So much history it is hard to remember it all. If you are in this area this a must see of things to do. The price is great and even better when we used our AAA discount. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This is a must see highlight of a visit to the Cashmere/Wenatchee/Leavenworth area. Adults are charged 7 dollars each, but you would have to look long and hard to find a more extensive collection of Native American artifacts, as well as an extensive gemological collection (particularly petrified wood samples) and artifacts from early white settlers. All the structures in the pioneer village are authentic log buildings moved to the museum grounds and generally dating from the 1880's. The museum has benefitted from the private donations of many individuals. It is well worth the time, money and effort to experience this museum.
Didn't think this was going to be much, but when we got inside it was way better than I thought. The challenge they made up for finding things in the museum was great and the ladies that work there are very sweet and cheerful. A lot to see!
One of the best Indian artifacts collections on the West Coast. This well run community of Cashmere museum has outstanding art works and bronze works by artist such as William Reese and others.
I have been to the Chelan County Museum and Pioneer Village several times with family members of all ages. Their Pioneer Village is a wonderful experience and re is always a new display or exhibit. On special weekends they have volunteers dressed up in pioneer attire and stage reinactments of history in the area. Pack a lunch and plan on spending more than a few hours at this great museum!
We had a great time here! My daughter got a little scavenger hunt sheet & off we went, exploring Native American artifacts, prehistoric exhibits, and (the best part) the Pioneer Village. She had been told that if she found all the items on the sheet, including a special brass elephant, she would get 2 prizes. We enthusiastically searched all the displays, along with a train caboose & all sorts of animal scenes, until all objects were found and she got her 2 prizes. Lots of fun, very interesting, and the lady up front was super friendly. A nice gift shop, too, along with restroom facilities & a water fountain.
Having grown up in East Wenatchee, I have fond memories of visiting this museum as a child. I remember thinking that the outdoor pioneer village was the coolest museum ever. Going back this summer to visit with my husband and 8 year old daughter was nostalgic, especially because little had changed. I was very pleased to see that the pioneer village was still there, was fully furnished as I remembered, and was well maintained. They must have a loyal following of benefactors to maintain this private museum. The interior was much as I remembered; Native American artifacts along with a basement full of dated taxidermy. For me, the outdoor pioneer village and RR exhibits were well worth the trip down memory lane. The family enjoyed it as well!
For a fee you can wander around this museum to look at some Native American artifacts, artwork, some pioneer related items, and a lot of taxidermy critters. You can then venture outside to see a variety of small buildings, such as cabins, a small jail, a church, etc. If you are in the area and want to kill an hour or two, it's a nice way to learn about the area and the folks who lived there.
We spent about an hour here and thoroughly enjoyed it - lots to see and learn about! The museum has loads of interesting artifacts and information, and the pioneer village is quite interesting to see and wander through. Stopping here was a very enjoyable learning experience about the area's history!Unfortunately we were a bit strapped for time, otherwise we would have liked to have been able to spend even more time here.
We took our grandkids and nephew to the attraction and loved it!! They even had a game challenge for the kids to do. We were originally worried the kids would lose interest in viewing things but the museum game challenge for the kids kept them going almost the entire time we were there. I'd recommend this museum to all families.
We brough a large group (any group over 15 can request a tour guide in advance for a low cost). We spent 2 hours, and could have spent longer. Our guides were very knowledgable and interesting. A great deal of work has gone into this museum. It was well worth stopping at.
