Very enjoyable...especially when we were pretty much the only visitors the Sunday after New Years. The kids thought it was just ok though. However, it's free so it was great!
Predictable but interesting. Exactly what you'd expect from an old historic building. Nothing too special but definitely worth adding to your list of things to do in Sacramento, just not at the top of said list.
Last time I had visited the Capitol Building was when I was in the 7th Grade. I wanted to see what it was like after the major renovation 40 years ago. We took the guided tour which was well worth the time because the tour guide talked about the history of the building and what improvements had been made over the decades. We visited the upper and lower legislative chambers, stopped outside the governors office, and finished by viewing the museum office depicting operations circa-1910. One of the most interesting sidelights was finding "signature" marks in paintings and floor tiles. We think we will return from the "Signature" Tour. Plan on spending at least one hour and maybe two or three hours.
I need to get back to the train museum. I took the kids there when we first moved to Sacramento and we had a wonderful time. It is a large museum with many trains on display. I highly recommend it.
Great architecture! You can walk around the park, rest on the bench or go inside the building to see the old governors' offices and California counties' dioramas/display cases.
Having lived in the Sacramento area for a number of years and never having visited the capital and museum, we decided to take advantage of some extra time we had available and go visit. We were very pleasantly surprised by both the variety of different information and things to see and found this to be a great experience. The Volunteer guide who showed us around did a superb job and our hope is that we get him again next time as we didn't see everything in the half day we had available.
The building has detailed and excellent architecture. It also has artwork and sculptures showing the state history. Definitely take a guided tour and watch government in action.
It was beautiful inside the building. People were very friendly and helpful. Did the guided tour which is free and learned a lot. The architectural details inside the building are beautiful.
Capitol grounds clean and well maintained. Numerous monuments throughout the park. In the spring and summer the rose garden near the VietNam Memorial is beautiful. Many weddings held there. The Capitol building is awesome and well maintained, too. Great place to hang out, maybe take a picnic lunch. Parking can be a challenge at times.
I went there with friends on Museum Day and went on a 45 min tour. The tour guide was great - informative, friendly, interactive, and interesting. I learned more about our government and would like to go back and sit in on a session of both the Assembly and the Legislature. It was interesting hearing about how the government used to be and how it still is in other states. I highly recommend this tour to anyone planning on visiting the Capitol.
Way cooler than one might think. Sign up for the hourlong tour. Highlights include the Senate and Assembly chambers and a good dose of history. Explore the beautiful grounds and practice your tree ID. A nice walk through the Rose garden and deep reflection at the Vietnam memorial and your time is well spent. Good places to eat or enjoy a nice happy hour just north of the grounds.
Impressive structure in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Check out the grounds as well. Somehow the Capitol drew more visitors when the "Governator" was around but seeing where the legislative bodies(senate and assembly) converge surpasses who may be the governor at the time. Check this place out and I will bet you'll find it a worthwhile visit.
Our own state capitol, right here in Sactown, is among the finest of the 50 examples one might visit in their travels throughout the U.S. It's grandeur and magnificence are breathtakingly beautiful and the white marble shines for all to enjoy. It is truly a blessing for all to enjoy.
