Stopped due to previous TA recommendation. Had open faced chicken sandwich w cucumber salad. Both were prepared perfectly. Flavors really jumped from the chicken sandwich. Chargrilled, fresh sweet tomatoes, spicy arugula and a slightly zesty (obviously homemade) aoli on a fresh bun. Really tasty. Cucumber salad w herbs also very good quality. I recommend this bistro for the food.
This is a great place to take kids to ride their bikes and play in the children's playground. This has the baseball field and tennis courts--walking distance to downtown San Mateo that you can get Jamba juice; Starbucks coffee right across the street.
Central Park is a great space for the neighborhood. It's big, has tennis courts, baseball fields...but it's pretty worn. With a nice update it will be truly lovely.
Wonderful place - great atmosphere, great food and terrific staff! Our favorite place - don't skip dessert!
Surprisingly more space than you would think, given its location. Some lovely gardens/lawns, sports courts, Japanese Tea Garden, etc.
This park was close to my grandmother's house. My kids still enjoy going there and running around the park, playing on the playground which is perfect for all ages. They even have a toddler area that is fenced in for security which is perfect for my son. The park is located walking distance to our location when we visit and is always clean.
Central park is located near downtown San Mateo. It has a big playground, Japanese Tea Garden ball field, tennis court, and grass area to lounge. Used to go frequently when my kids were growing up. Also had some of their birthday parties there. Good times. Have to pay for parking except on Sundays. Variety of Restaurants are very close.
We bought sandwiches and drinks at a restaurant that was very close. Then we enjoyed a couple of hours with our grandkids at the park. It was very pretty with lots of trees and shade. There aren't a lot of playground items, but it's nice to just stop for a while and take it easy.
My children are 44 and 46 and I took them to Central Park when they were young, as did my mom with our family and I am 66 so its been around for a long long time. The train was the most fun of all. We loved everything about Central Park and still do!
This is located in downtown San Mateo.its a beautiful park with something for all ages.close to great resturants.and shopping.inside is a beautiful Japaneese Garden.
Nice place to go for a picnic / team outing / family get together / playing treasure hunt . . .It's a Circular trail with children's play ground, Japanese tea garden, courts for tennis and baseball.. Children will surely have fun.. Nice way to stretch your muscles and get baked in the sun. You can play frisbee, walk around with you dog which is leashed, have a romantic moment with your spouse too :) No food joints within the park.. So, you can pack up your own stuff and come to the park and relax with family.
Plenty of benches to relax, nice clean paths, nice clean playground with many different kinds of equipment, great location with many "entrances"Also has Japanese garden and tennis courts
This is a great place to go for an old fashioned Sunday picnic. We used to take our very young children there when they WERE young, setting out a blanket and unpacking food from a basket. There is a small part of the park that juts out on the south side, and is rather protected by the circular rose garden and a life-sized statue of a dog, that is perfect for these types of picnics. This small part of the park reminds me of the small block parks in Paris. There is one walkway right down the center, and people use it to access the larger part of the park, so there is a stream of people strolling by, which allows for people watching. Very young children are happy here in this area, and it is quiet. Later, as the kids grew, we ventured out to the playground area, which is also great for kids, but tends to be noisier, and which is placed near larger picnic tables. These areas tend to be dominated by HUGE family parties, and these parties then dominate the playground area. During the week, a nearby high school lets out, and the kids come here to hang out in different areas. These kids tend to be just regular kids who talk in a group before going to the nearby public library or the nearby stores, not intimidating at all. My kids occasionally went there. They said it was fun and rather convenient to have a large outdoor community place to hang out that was not a building or a place that would intimidate store owners. Still, it would be great to have a farmer's market there, or a few fairs. We used to go to an annual fair that was held in the park, but it is now defunct, and I really miss that connection. I do not go there much any more, except for the Japanese Garden, which is so wonderful, it seems to be a separate place and which deserves a separate review.
