I really enjoyed this course and the service levels were excellent....a very customer orientated approach for sure. The course has a great layout and the scenery is awesome. The greens are very fast but they run true, it took a few holes to adjust but the putts started to drop so definitely enjoyed that part of the experience. One of my best golf experiences.
The staff, the course, the amenities treat you like a million bucks. Whether a member or a guest, the treatment is the same. Its in a sensational location with challenging and interesting holes. Be forewarned the greens are very tricky in that you can roll off the green if you are not careful. The only thing that saved me was that I golfed with a couple of members who knew the ins and outs of the course. I also rented clubs and they were in great shape. Its a little way out of San Diego, but worth the drive.
I played this course in January 2015. The course was in great shape and fun. Every hole was different, but fair. No gimmick holes, no blind shots . Price was very reasonable for this caliber of course. Great scenery. I would definitely play it again.
Friendly shop staff right off the bat, as well cart girl & cart attendants.Beautiful scenery on all holes.Course plays quick for how nice it is. Weekday rates at just over $100 are reasonable for this caliber course.Greens are in good shape & some holes more difficult than others. Can't wait to play it again.
The golf course is in perfect condition. The restaurant has the most friendly people, the best chef and delicious food. Always a good time and a great round of golf.
Maderas Golf Course is an outstanding course located in Poway, CA not far from the Rancho Bernardo area. It's situated in a beautiful preserve and sits among multi-million dollar homes occupied by celebrities and San Diego's highest paid sports figures. If you're a good golfer (under 18 handicap), this is an outstanding course that will challenge you with open fairways and long Par 4's and 5's. I'm not a long-driver off the tees, so I barely managed to break 100. Maderas has some tough greens to read so I had several three-putts.the golf course and facilities are beautifully maintained and the $90+ average green fees reflect that fact. Even their golf carts are upscale.Maderas has a few fairways that climb hills and require some finesse when it comes to making good shots. The par 3s are memorable, especially on the back nine.In the summer, you don't want to risk going into the bushes to search for an errant shot. Leave it to the rattlesnakes... yes, they are plentiful in spring and summer. If you're looking for a really great golf experience, I recommend Maderas GC.By the way, their food in the restaurant is excellent. Their burgers are among the best in the county!Location: 17750 Old Coach Rd, Poway, CA 92064Website: www.maderasgolf.com
Maderas Golf Club sits on top a canyon with a beautiful view of the golf course and surrounding hills of Poway. The restaurant has large windows for enjoying the view. The expansive outside patio is a beautiful dining area with umbrellas. The menu is varied and delicious! The site is also booked for weddings and other special occasions!
This is one of the most enjoyable courses I've ever played. It's located about 1/2 hour northeast of downtown San Diego in the town of Poway. It's extremely scenic with multi-million dollar homes perched on the surrounding hills and a mountainous backdrop that on many holes is quite spectacular. The course and terrain were reminiscent of some of the nicer courses in Los Cabos. Overall, I'd say it was moderately difficult. There were a number of risk/reward situations that made a pre-shot study of the holes advisable. Fairways were mostly wide open which suits my erratic long game. The most challenging element was the undulating greens. Good putters are rewarded while those who aren't as strong with the flat-stick should expect at least a few 3-putts. The course was in excellent condition despite the prolonged drought affecting the area, though not every golfer had cared for their ball marks on the greens. The course was virtually empty on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, so we played at our own pace, finishing in about 4 1/2 hours including a brief stop for lunch (ordered and delivered promptly by the cart girl). This will be a regular stop when I visit the San Diego area.
What a fine Club and spectacular Golf Course. We have been welcomed by THE STARTER who did a marvelous job. The Course is in excellent condition - better than Torrey Pines! Of course the South Course is a Cahmpionship Course but the condition? Not so good.... We had a great time on a day with a lot of sun and 89°!
Best golf course ever played and the general manager was so helpful and kindly to let us play with another couple which we met twi days ago. We highly recommend to play this course and the whole managment is doing a great job.
7 Brits on a weeks golfing holiday from the uk decided to play maderas golf course on our last day and boy we were not disappointed this has to be one of the best courses that i and the other guys have played from arrival to departure the whole day was fantastic and the golf course was unbelievable ,if we come back to ca this will be on the top of our list
Just did a golf tournament here this past Friday at Maderas. My company paid a pretty penny to sponsor a hole. My coworker and I arrived on time and checked in. We started to unload our stuff and decided not to call the staff over for a ride till we were finished unloading because we didn't want them waiting on us. Sure enough a Maderas employee pulls up without asking them and starts to get "annoyed" because we weren't finished. So we rushed to get everything out of the van. Then we were asked rudely "how much more stuff do we have?" Keep in mind we sponsored a hole so a shade, 2 chairs, 1 table, 3 box of giveaways, and a cooler seemed like an inconvenience. We get to the hole and set up with about 20 mins till it started. They left a cart at the hole so we started to drive down to the clubhouse when we were flagged down. The manager along with another employee went to get the cart from us but we needed to use the restroom and order food before the tournament. FIRST I asked if there was a restroom scattered throughout the course and he said (with a chuckle) No! (That's odd for a high end course) SECOND then we asked if we can order food from the restaurant and have it delivered (to the 2nd hole- not far!) and he said with attitude "No we don't do that here." (Can I say again odd for a high end course)Okay...we basically asked "ok what do we do then?" The guy said "order from the snack bar or cart girl because it's fast and use the clubhouse facility." The manager then rushed us back to the clubhouse and waited for us to hurry and do everything. Ugg! Then the nerve of this guy told us "we were starting to give him the impression we were high maintenance!" He said afterwards he was just teasing but with his tone said he wasn't! RUDE! We get our overpriced $85 lunch (2sandwiches, 2 drinks, 2 cokes, and 1 pack of jerky) and get back to the hole. It was a Beautiful day, beautiful course, and they had a nice waterfall. The beverage cart attendant (who we saw once and thank goodness we didn't rely on her for food or drink and who I thought was a sweet girl) never came back after that and I even asked her too! Geez I just can't catch a break here! The Tournament ended and they sent this guy to collect our stuff. We were struggling to get our shade down and he literally just sat there watching when he realized that he can't go anywhere till we were packed up and squared away. So he shoots to us "are you just about done yet?" And at this point we were loosing patient with the horrible staff so we said "our shade is stuck - so NO!" With a huff and puff he got up and finally helped. Then we carried everything down to the bottom of the hole when he said "he ran out of gas." WTHECK?!?! So without calling another course employee to help he asked if WE can push the cart to the top of the hill and he will coast down. OMGosh I was so shocked that this was happening! So my partner (in a skirt) ended up running up the hill and pushed the dang cart to get him out of there! The guy comes back with a gas can (shouldn't he have filled up then come get us?) and then he watched us two ladies pack up the club cart. We then had to ask him to help us with the cooler after he watched us struggle. We get to the van and same thing: watched us unloaded all of our stuff and asked him to help with the cooler. Then before we left the manager who insulted us once, said " well if it isn't my favorite ladies!" (Didn't appreciate the sarcasm and ok jerk we get it you can't stand us!) We really felt like we were treated as an inconvenience instead of a guest. It was horrible. It's to bad because the course was gorgeous but the staff was NOT up to PAR. I've done so many events and by far this had the worst staff ever. This location for San Diego is an extremely nice area and surrounded by 15 million dollar homes and this is how customers get treated? Not saying other courses aren't friendly because of their location, but for the prices they charge here and the type of golf course they supposedly are-I was not impressed what so ever and will NEVER return!
This golf course is terrific. It is always in great shape, but it is expensive. Go on your birthday and play for free.
I had the pleasure of playing this top ranked public course on Wed Aug27.Having played Pebble Beach,Torrey Pines,Spanish Bay ,Harding Park amongst others I would rank Maderas as the best if you are seeking value and pristine playing conditions. The staff in the pro shop were fabulous. The only misgiving I had was that I played alone and was unable to share my golfing experience.A must play golf course. I will definitely play this course again when I am in the San Diego area.
My brother wanted to try this course as it is a top 100 public course as rated by golf digest. It was his birthday and I decided to get us a tee time. I gulped once or twice when I saw the green fees! Fortunately when we arrived it was like we had died and gone to heaven! This course is immaculately cared for. We were pampered by the staff at every turn. The course is also quite tough with lots of demanding shots and difficult greens. There are many uphill long shots, but then you also have lots of downhill masterpieces as well.Reward yourself with a little bit of golfer's heaven and play a round. Even if you end up in hell on a few holes at the end of the day you will want to come back for more!!
