This is THE place to go in Chico to see an independent film. Love the popcorn with nutritional yeast (instead of artificial butter that tastes like 30 weight motor oil with salt) and the funky couches up front. They have recently upgraded the projection system. If you want to watch a film with a home-town crowd instead of at home, streaming on your laptop, this is the place to go.
This place has been in Chico for years and has the best films in a relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss cheapskate Monday nights where all seats are less then $5:)
The only theater in town to see art movies, although very small compared to regular theaters. It could use a little face lift, but you get what you pay for.
Cinema umpteen it's NOT ! Little independent theater which shows art films, local talent, controversial and non-mainstream movies. The seats are better than they used to be but don't expect plush. The films and the spirit of the place more than make up for it !
The Pageant is a cozy, little theatre to see great movies. The popcorn is pretty good, too. They even have brewers yeast you can sprinkle on it. :-)
We found a parking space right at the front door of the Pageant Theatre. As I opened the door, my hand stuck to the handle. The man in the lobby at the small desk asked if we wanted a ticket. He said "You don't really need one, cause there's no one to take it from you." I went to the restroom to wash my hands. In the ladies room there is a large poster of Dracula biting a woman's neck. Although the sink looked like it was ready to fall away from the wall, there was soap, paper towels, and a working toilet. The theatre was small and intimate. Black material hung from the walls, sagging a bit. Large colorful vintage movie posters decorate the walls. The ceiling is covered with acoustical tiles, some askew. The theatre has excellent picture and sound. The seating is surprisingly comfortable, with a couch in the first row. There was also a snack bar. All in all, it was a very pleasant and memorable experience. A Chico must-see.
