Well laid out and informative. It provided a good background knowledge for the settlement and devolpment of Hood River and its surrounding areas for tourists.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stop at this eclectic display....learned about Luhr and his family's contribution to the area as well as an excellent overview of the pioneers in the area. The Cemetery Tales performances gave an awesome insight into some of the lives lived. Loved it! Look forward to other events in future. Definitely recommend a visit to museum and to engage with the staff who are interesting and interested to share their knowledge. Fantabulous!
The museum is small but has a lot of interesting displays. We enjoyed the DVD on the history of the Japanese American community in Hood River and the presentation of Luhr Jensen. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. This is definitely worth a stop if you are near the Marina in Hood River. The small gift shop has some unique items and books.
Although not very large, it was very interesting. Very good presentation on one of the early founders of Hood River, Luhr Jensen, and his fishing lures as well as a very good presentation on the Japanese internment in the area. Well worth a visit.
A stop here is a great start to a tour of the Columbia River Gorge. Aside from the River and Lewis & Clark, I had no idea about the history of this area of Oregon. The history and displays are unusually thorough and complete, and were a great background to have while visiting and appreciating the Columbia River Gorge. The museum's website states that it is staffed by volunteers, and that 'open hours' may depend during inclement weather on the staff's ability to be there. Best to check if that's the case while you're there.
Showcasing the History of the Columbia Gorge and combined with the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center this is an outstanding Museum that you can easily spend several hours appreciating/ When I was there they had a 30 minute lecture on Raptor birds which included a live Hawk and a live Horned Owl. The museum has really cool exhibits and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
The movie shown throughout the day about the history of the River is interesting with many facts.
Get the local flavor here. See how it was a hundred years ago...
