We had the entire family on a road trip through Ardmore. Friends suggested we stop. This is a fun detour! Built in an old roller rink it features a relocated cabin, small school, and all sorts if military memorabilia. Be sure to take the time to speak with the veterans manning the military section in the back. They were very nice and had great stories. The gift shop here was great as well. Best prices in town on "Oklahoma" souvenirs!
We had some time to kill so we decided to check it out seeing it was free. What a great museum with so much history. So many things I remember from my childhood . Make sure to take time to look inside the doll houses. So much detail inside them. They also have a wonderful military wing. A must see .
We were in Ardmore for a couple of days and decided to check this museum out. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the displays at the museum. It was more like stepping back into time than anything. Dentist office, bookkeepers office, and several other displays of how things would have looked years ago. Really enjoyed the military wing of the museum. Can't beat this museum and for free I thought we got way more than we paid for.We left a nice donation because it was really very nicely done displays.
The Reconstructed log cabin and house were well done. The settings and items in the offices for the Doctors , Dentist, Law, general store, soda Fountain were exceptional well done. The Military Museum was unique in its display of uniforms
Great to visit. Staff is very knowledgeable. Definitely give yourself plenty of time to look because there us a ton of interesting stuff to see.
Very interesting and lots of history to read about and things to look at. It's easy to locate right on the main hwy through town In the old National Guard Armory
We visit many museum and this one was not a disappointment! They had many different exhibits that were all interesting. We did not take our kids this time but will definitely take them next time! If you have not been you need to!
My family and I do an "Oklahoma Adventure" about once a month. This month we headed to Ardmore, ostensibly to see its holiday light display. Before dinner we decided to stop by this museum. We have been to a number of county museums around Oklahoma, and this one is by far the best we've seen. It has the typical bank, doctor's office, courtroom, one-room school house, etc., recovered from old Ardmore. It also has a first-rate military museum, which elevates the entire experience. The only drawback might be that it is not built to be terribly kid-friendly. That being said, my kids enjoyed it, especially looking at all of the model ships, tanks, and planes.
We didn't allow enough time. I want to go back and visit this museum again. Very impressive. The staff of the main museum was very pleasant and full of information. The gentleman in the military exhibit was the same. Very, very nice folks.
Can't believe I lived here 13 years before I visited. Excellent meuseum of frontier live and military history. In fact I would say the miltary history is as good as the museaum at Ft. Sill in Lawton. The docents are excellent and it is worth spending time just sitting and visiting with them.
