Located in Erie County, Ohio, approximately 2 miles west of Huron on U.S. Route 6. Use the Rye Beach Road exit from SR 2 and proceed west approximately .5 mile to the preserve entrance. We met lots of nice people on our walk, this would be a great place to take kids, but no pets are allowed. Make sure you take your camera!!

Any season this is a great place to walk. Broad paved walkway out to a beautiful beach. Just wish we could talk our dog.

A very nice hike, and a photographers dream. You can chose the dirt path or a paved one to walk on. Kids would love seeing the turtles, chipmunks and squirrels. The squirrels come right up to you, obviously looking for a treat. There's a nice little sandy beach off the trail towards the end. It was definitely worth visiting this nature preserve.

This was my first visit, so I really didn't know what to expect. It was a beautiful day and a very nice walk. There are several little offshoots with benches so that you can stay awhile and just enjoy the views and sounds of nature. We saw fat little squirrels that would come right up to you, which means they have well fed by the visitors. Most places discourage the feeding of the wild animals so I'm not sure it's a good thing, but it was very entertaining. I was liked the little swamp area and even got to see some turtles. Probably my favorite was the boardwalk to the beach where we saw an egret & great blue heron. I guess the only negative is that there were no maps or markers that I could see about the area, so I didn't know how long the road or boardwalk. We only spent about an hour here, but I would have spent more time if I could. Very enjoyable experience.

If your a nature lover this Nature Preserve is a must see. There were a variety of birds ranging from Robins to Red Headed Woodpeckers. The squirrels and chipmunks were so friendly that they would eat peanuts and sunflower seeds right from you hand. The trails are a mix of paved and dirt but both are well maintained. It is obvious that this preserve is well cared for. I went with my sister and we got there pretty early in the day and before we knew realized it it was almost 8 p.m.. There are a number of rest areas that you can sit and watch the birds and a few that are like mini docks that look out over the marsh where you can see turtles and marsh wildlife.

This was my first time to Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve and I am planning a trip back later this next week. There are so many different kinds of wildlife to see while walking on the trails. The Squirrels and Chipmunks are VERY friendly and even allowed us to feel them by hand. On our adventure we saw Chipmunks,Squirrels,Bluejays,Red headed woodpeckers,Red wing blackbirds,Starlings,Rabbits,Turtles,Dragonflies, and even an Eastern Fox Snake in a tree sunbathing. The rest areas overlooking the Marsh are amazing! The views are Gorgeous! We were there all day and did not want to leave. There was just so much going on. I can't wait to go back this next week! I HIGHLY recommend checking it out! Fun for the whole family!

Lots of animals. Fattest squirrels I have ever seen. Turtles, snakes, birds, fish, chipmunks. Wildflowers, trees, aquatic plants. A great walk

Not quite in the Magee Marsh category, but well worth a visit. The road was more productive than the dirt paths, perhaps because of better visibility.

This is a very well maintained area with a paved path that is even plowed during the winter. Approx. one mile to lake Erie with lots of nature to view. This is an excellent bird watching area as it is situated on their flight path in the spring and fall. This was once the old entrance to Cedar Point until the lake took back the shoreline and you can see the park at the end of your walk.

Took my kids there a few times and each time we saw something different. Lots of wildlife! Beautiful and peaceful.

Just enjoyed a very peaceful work with my son and grandson.I haven't been out there for years. It was a long walk back for to the beach, but there were plenty of large decks built over the marsh lands to stop and take pictures and listen to the wildlife. There were different pathetic to take that led to ponds and creeks. It was like another world when you walk out of the woods and on to the beach. We skipped stones watched the egrets and looked at the light house across the way.We had a wonderful time.Quiet, peaceful and educational.

This is a very nice to place to take a walk. But it is a long walk. I would love to see them put in a bike path on each side of the walkway. Not everyone is capable of making it all the way to the end of the path.

This is a wonderful place to go and explore nature. The asphalt walkway is wide to accommodate everyone. There are areas off the "beaten path" with information of the flora/fauna. There is a boardwalk that leads to a beach area where you can see the roller coasters of Cedar Point. Just a very pleasant stroll.

My wife, son, and I stopped by the preserve the morning after visiting Cedar Point. We were looking forward to the nice 1-mile hike to the beach area. Once we arrived at the beach we witnessed black waves and a nasty stench. No idea what is in the water there but it isn't healthy. My biggest complaint about the park is that there are educational signs about birds, plants, and turtles but not one sign warning us about SNAKES! We climbed up on the small cement/rock wall on the east side of trail to view the lake when my son pointed out to us a snake three feet from us. Having been distracted by the view of the lake I never looked down until he said "snake". I quickly noticed the fact that there wasn't just one snake but at least seven all around us on the rock wall. We flew off this wall and got back to the safety of the trail. After some research I determined that they must have been Northern Water Snakes but any snake bite has to hurt. I just picture small curious children climbing that small wall and accidentally touching or stepping on these snakes and getting bit. Please be careful of this if you visit this park.

We enjoyed the walk to Lake Erie on the Old Cedar Point Road, through wetlands and forests. Plenty of wildlife to see, and Lake Erie is always a welcome sight.
