the feline historical museum

The museum is located in a former bank in the downtown area. Parking is available at the side of the building. I loved the modern, clean, wide open space, filled with light. There are a lot of paintings, ceramics, figurines, furniture pieces, and a collection of cat dolls, and vintage cat carriers.. There is a library you can browse through the books and learn about the history of various breeds and the care of cats. A very small area serves as a gift shop and items were reasonable. No live cats, however there are a few occasions during the year live cats are on the premises. There are many antique stores within walking distance that are fun to visit.

We visited the museum in August when the Maine Coon cats were there. What a delight to pet and play with these beautiful creatures! The Japanese cat (art) collection (Neku) was very interesting.Owners of the cats and the curator of the museum were very friendly and knowledgeable about cats. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a cat lover. If you go to their website-there is a calendar listing when the "live" cats are in the museum... usually in the summer. I am planning on returning when they have the cats doing the agility demonstration and hopefully, they will have the Ragdolls- live cats in the museum sometime.
