My husband, brother-in-law and I drove to the Fat Toad Farm on one of our scenic drives while visiting Vermont. The drive was absolutely breathtaking with the fall foliage at near peak. We love visiting farm stores when we travel and this one did not disappoint. The tour was not only interesting but also educational. Steve explained the milking process, the unique personalities lof the goats and even how they are named. We watched the employees making and bottling the amazing caramel (cajeta) and were able to taste any or all of the flavors that they produce. Since we are traveling by air, Judith took my order and is shipping it home for us. Very friendly owners, anxious to answer all of our questions and made us feel very welcome. This is a must do if you are in the Brookfield/Randolph area.
if you are looking to a healthy lower sugar alternative to regular caramel this is it...very rich...very tasty..well worth ordering
My husband and I visited Fat Toad Farm recently while in Vermont and wanted to see where the goats' milk caramel sauces are made that we enjoy so much. Steve gave us a wonderful tour and we were able to meet some of the goats that comprise their herd. We learned that goats are not only very friendly and endearing but also very smart. We saw where the goats are milked and could also view the caramel sauce making facility. Then we enjoyed shopping in the little store where we were able to sample the various caramel sauce flavors we hadn't tried before and left happily with our purchase of several jars to take home. Now when we enjoy these sauces, we will be able to reminisce about our visit to the farm where the kind owners along with their gentle goats make these specialty products possible. Theirs is an inspiring story and I hope more people continue to discover Fat Toad Farm. We're happy we did!
