One of my favorite art museums. They have a very nice Monet (my favorite painter), but you have to see their Asian exhibit and their Japanese garden, a wonderful oasis on campus. And their collection on kogo (incense burners) is unparalled.
I have been to,lots of galleries and museum, and have paid lots of money to get into them. BONUS, this one is free! They were featuring an Impressionist exhibit that had a few Monets in it along with American Impressionists. Also, African Art, photo exhibit! Asian display, all on one floor. The gallery is next to some other attractions so parking may be a challenge on weekends, If you can hook up with a docent and listen to their explanations, do so.
What a gem of an Art Gallery! I was there today to do a site inspection for an upcoming group tour and had heard a lot of positive comments about this gallery. I wasn't disappointed. They have a superlative collection of artwork. Currently, there's a Monet exhibit along with African Traditional costumes. I was also impressed with the Asian collection and took a few minutes to walk in the Japanese garden. Checked out the café which was closed as it was a Sunday. Plenty of restrooms. Things that stood out... all exhibits are on one floor making it easy to maneuver for those with disabilities. Also, the openness of the rooms... very airy... didn't feel crowded. BONUS #1... docents available on a complementary basis doing 45 minute tours of the gallery. BONUS #2... free entry! Yes... FREE! The staff was most helpful. Nice little gift shop and reasonably priced to boot! Decision made... will definitely schedule my group for a stop here.
The museum had several collections on display. A nice mix of paintings, sculptures and artifacts. We really enjoyed walking through and reading about the artists
Art is not my thing I guess. I love walking around the Natural History Museum more, but was there with my son and a group of kids. We had a guide which made it very boring. Would rather have walked around myself. The Asian wing is lovely and the garden is beautiful. Very well done.
The art museum has diversity. It is fabulous and free. (Donations accepted). Fee to park on weekdays. There is a cafe downstairs and a nice exhibit outside, with water and pond. We combined this with other things like outdoor walking paths. It was good. Hope to see more museums in the area.
I'm not much of an art fan, so I probably didn't appreciate this place as much as someone who knows art would, but I know that it's amazing enough because I was intrigued and impressed with the whole place. You can go on tours, and they have soooooo many art exhibits and different themed rooms, with TONS of artwork and pieces to experience. The Chinese zen garden was my favorite part! So neat that they put so much thought into it! Detailed very well too!
a small museum on the university grounds. It was a very pleasant surprise to see how lovely it is. The galleries are all on one ground level. Very interesting exhibits with changes monthly. I went in December and I am going once more in January while I am still in the area. The attached Cafe was nice for a break. Admission is by donation.
Current displays that change fairly often along with a strong permanent collection of local, international art...with a visit and a docent tour if you get a good docent
FREE! Was amazed at that.. Had so many things to see.. great displays and gardens and a cafe with tasty food.. spent a lot of time there.. didn't want to miss any thing..
Great museum showing different artists. Well laid out. Visit the gift shop it is quite nice not crowded easy for everyone to walk around. Don't think small children would like it but it is excellent for adults
This place has a lot of great exhibits throughout the year. I enjoy coming here every time. Definitely a multi-use location for dates, friends, family, or simply to look and meditate.
The Harn is not large and is located next to a terrific kids museum with a beautiful butterfly enclosure. What I enjoy about the Harn:Parking is freeLocal artists are shownThe South Asis wing ( newly opened ) is exquisite in its selections and settings)The permanent exhibits are interestingThe light is good; the gift shop charming. New food, coffee and wine bar downstairs perfect addition. All free...make a donation if you chose.
It is a good visit and tour guides are available. It is small but a good break in the day. Don't miss the gift shop !!! Many artists work available for purchase.
The Harn is exactly what you expect from an Art Museum. It has a wide variety of collections, and therefore can appeal to a broad audience. I particularly enjoyed the exhibits involving taxidermy and was thrilled to find out that the Harn has a Monet on display. Even without being a huge fan of Monet's style, I was still struck by the piece, and the sense of age and wonder that comes from being so close to the art itself. They have several tours and plenty of guides to every different wing/piece. Definitely a nice way to spend an afternoon.
