The Ringling is worth visiting. The grounds were spectacular. It was covered in Banyon trees. You can take a nice stroll along their pathways that take you through gardens and the trees. There are restaurants and even a Starbucks. The museum part was really cool. They have a miniature circus area that shows how extensive the set up and take down is for a traveling circus. It was so cool to see how detailed the replica was. I spent most of my time in there. They had some interactive areas which were neat. And if you are into art, you can tour the main house which has an extensive collection of fine art. So glad I visited this attraction. Totally recommend this to anyone!!
Went from 11 to 5 and only got to see half. Amazing circus museum with a model that took 50 years to build. Posters, films, railcar, more. Also saw the Ca D'Zan, John and Mabel Ringling's mansion in the Venetian style right on the water. amazing. Did nto even have time to see the art museum or see a show in the Asolo theater, also supposed to be special. Can't wait to go back.
I was a little skeptical about visiting this museum but, after reading previous reviews, decided to go. I am so glad that I did. My 10 year old daughter and I loved the beautiful grounds including the rose garden and playground. I wager that the circus museum would be interesting to anyone who visits. Don't miss the miniature circus in the learning center.
Enjoy this fantastic Fine Arts Museum and walk the grounds for an outstanding experience Have lunch at the cafe
There is a lot to see here! There is an art museum, a circus museum, the Ringling Mansion (Ca d'Zan) and large grounds and gardens. We saw only the circus museum and the mansion. Both were fabulous and very interesting. Well worth a visit. Will have to see the art museum next time!
Circus museum has a "to-scale" miniature circus in motion that is phenomenal...thanks to Howard Tibbals, local visionary who built it. You will not see anything like this anywhere. Ca'd'zan is gorgeous, right on the bay. Museum owns incredible Rubens as well as other Masters and super rotating exhibits. Courtyard is surprising in breadth and depth. Teviso is consistently good for lunch. Rose gardens, banyans, and other flora throughout are a delight to the eyes. Fun, informative for all ages and stages.
John Ringling's art nearly was lost to bankruptcy at the end of his life. The entrepreneur did everything in his power to keep them together, and what a magnificent collection he had! You can get lost in a single room. Definitely worth the entrance fee. Treviso is a great little restaurant as well.
I have heard of this place for years. On this latest trip to the Sarasota area we visited the Mansion and the Circus Museum. What a great place. Very comprehensive and interesting. We actually ran out of time and plan to go back next year. Never realized all the effort that it took to transport, set up, feed, etc.
We were really going to the Ringling property to see the Ca d'Zan Mansion. But we got sidetracked into the Circus museum and it was lots of fun - the costumes, the circus stories, and a great model of what life was like when when the circus came to town. Very nice
We had fun in the Museum learning about circus history. There were many opportunities to take pictures and interact with some of the exhibits. We opted to take the guided tour of Ca'dZon rather than the free self guided tour, The guided tour allowed you to go up to the second floor and was more meaningful than just walking through. Lines for the free tour were very long with people waiting a long time to get in. All tours are timed but you can purchase tickets for guided tour once you are already inside. There is also a movie about John Ringling you can watch. For those who can not do a lot of walking there is a trolley to take you from one site to another. We really could have used more time since we were not able to go to the art museum. It is possible to purchase multiple day passes if you can.
