Tee to green, best conditions we played in Pinellas. All the other courses close by had no grass in fwys and did not compare to the lush conditions at eastbay. Both other clubs near by did not overseed fwys with rye and fyws were sparse of any legit turf to hit off of. East Bay always is friendly and its tee times are always on time. Pace of play even on the busiest days is just fine. I work summers back home at a course in PA and I can tell you this facility is run as efficiently as any public track I have encountered. Hats off to the entire staff. I can't say that for the other facilities.
I liked the layout. The fairways are pretty open with challenging distance for the older but a pleasure to play. Plenty of water and sand to make green approaching fun. The greens were only ok, again it was the winter and we had rain recently. Most greens had several ungulations without being crazy. My wife liked the course, feeling the ladies' tees were fair. The carts were fine with a nice GPS system. We had a slow group in front of us so it took over four hours to play which was our only negative of the day.
First time I have been ignored and then passed over in the pro shop. The counter person handled a customer and then ignored me even though I was waiting behind him.He ignored me and jumped out to help three guys that just came in. One of the 3 guys politely asked him why he was not serving me. How embarrassing!Keep in mind I am 6" 1 and 190 pds.Counter guy gave me a dirty look and was nice enough to take my money.I should never have gone in the first place. 5 hour rounds are not fun! Obviously the course was so overbooked no one could move.
I played after the rains last week and found the course conditions very good. Greens rolled nice and tee and fwys were plush. Most green grass of any where in town. East Bay continues to overseed fwys with rye grass for the winter months and it shows. I will be enjoying this track again soon.
East Bay is definitely a course that is non pretensious and good value for money. I played there Monday, 1 Dec 14 and found the course to be in good condition considering the rain of late. My wife and I play off 18 and 14 respectively. We consider ourselves well travelled golfers and have played many a famous course around the World. For the record, my game was off and I was soundly beaten by the wife. This had nothing to do with the course, the GPS equipped cart or the Eagles that looked on mockingly from their nest in the trees by the 16th. Yes, the course had problems with their greens when we visited during our trip in April, but all credit must be given to the green staff for returning them to the current good playable condition. Don't all rush here at once, I want to experience more three hour rounds at East Bay whilst I am here.
I played East Bay this weekend and found the fairways in great shape. of all 18 greens, two were sanded and a few spots were being re sodded on the 10th. A new #3 green was re sprigged and set to open next week..... although I liked playing short so I didn't have to hit across the lake! Course is in good shape, it seems a bit radical to be trashing any course for a few bad areas. I can say East Bay is in better shape than others close by, I am playing in a tournament next weekend there because it was moved from a course that was in horrible shape to East Bay's nice conditions. $24 with cart after 11am means I will be playing a bunch all summer long!
Played this course today. The best that I can say is that who revere looks after the greens need to have a good long look at themselves. I am a single figure handicap player and have played courses all over the world. The greens today are by a long way the worst that I have ever played on. On top of that the tee boxes were in a poor state of repair. This course could be ok but it is totally spoilt by poor greens and tees. A note for anyone considering playing don't waste your hard earned
On a recent vacation to the St. Pete area, we had scheduled 3 rounds of golf that ran the gambit of price ranges. We chose this one as our value course and were not expecting a high end experience, but a playable course. This course was anything but playable. Many greens had significant kill, to the point where three greens were just green dyed SAND! Many courses would close those greens, set up temporary greens and take some time to repair them properly, not just trying to hide the issues. It would have been nice of someone, either the starter or the pro shop worker to mention those issues. When I asked someone about the greens at the end of the round, they shrugged their shoulders and said they had experienced some kill. Even as your value round in the Clearwater area, AVOID THIS COURSE AT ALL COSTS!
Decent course, good fairways but several of the greens needed work. Moderately priced for playing on a Sunday.
East Bay is an average, somewhat well maintained course with great fairways. Unfortunately several greens are in so-so shape, and a couple are what you could call distressed. The sand traps are below average, and in my opinion lack enough good sand to allow average players to hit well out of them. Several even have grass growing in them. This is a great layout with a lot of water. It could be better with more attention paid to some details. It is also moderately overpriced at $40 plus tax. I rated it above average because of its potential.
Course was better than many other courses around but not still in very good condition. - What is wrong in the courses in the area? The Club premisses not in the same level. The sandwiches very good. Good parking place, El. cartsvery good.
Cheap to play, lousy conditions, average service. Just a place to wack balls for all the hackers out there. Greens are crap. If you shoot under 100 don't waste your time and money.
Love this layout, and in the best shape in many years. New ownership has really improved greens. Best value and always friendly staff. Check it out
Played 18 solo today. I think it was $26 with Cart and GPS. Gorgeous hot day with a little breeze. I think I was 1 of ten on the course this Monday afternoon. Course is much green with the rains. They purchased a green roller so they are in much better condition.
We play this course all the time but yesterday we went after work like we have been doing lately and paid for 18 holes. We were told to play the front nine twice since there was a golf league on the back nine. We made it through the front nine by about 7pm and teed off at the first hole again to start our second round. While halfway to the green on the first hole we noticed they were picking up the flags. We went back to the starter (Dick Carter) to see what was going on. He stated they have to pull the pins before dark. We explained to Dick Carter that there was still over an hour of sunlight left and we paid for 18 holes. He made some rude remark and ignored us and walked away. At this time there was nobody in the pro shop to talk to about it like maybe the guy that we paid for 18 holes. Because of Dick Carter, we will not be going back. I am very upset that we won't be back as we played there atleast 4 times in the last two weeks. There are too many other courses in the area that will gladly take our business and treat us better. Thanks Dick Carter
