On Tuesday, March 9, 2015, I had a wonderful horseback riding experience at Cave Creek Outfitters. Owner & Cowboy Todd and his crew of wranglers provided an awesome experience. It was obvious that the horses, all 52 of them, were well cared for and Todd knew each of the horses as he selected the perfect match for each trail rider. I was blessed with the opportunity to ride Billy, a seven (7) year old Canadian Thoroughbred. Having grown up riding & showing horses, I was very pleased with how well the horses were trained and with the level of contentment that each horse exhibited. A true sign the horses are happy & cared for with love. And I learned about sand colic from Todd and the steps that he takes to prevent this illness for his horses. Thank you, Todd and your crew. An amazing, peaceful, and memorable experience!
I took my two teenage daughters here and had a great experience. James was our wrangler and he was friendly and very knowledgable about the desert. One of my daughters had a medical condition and couldn't finish the trail ride, so they came and got her and didn't charge us for her. That's great service. Friendly staff and a great location on the edge of the beautiful Arizona desert.
We had 7 people -- ranging in age from 9 years old to 76 years old, on a two hour trail ride through the desert. Our guide, James, was super friendly and even took my husband's camera for about 10 minutes -- taking different photos of our group that we could sort through later. He also led us to a beautiful spot with a great backdrop of mountains and cacti where he took a group photo of all of us on horseback. The horses knew the route and I never worried about my young kids falling off or the horses getting spooked. James had plenty of interesting anecdotes about the area. We saw jackrabbits and chipmunks which the kids loved. A wonderful, relaxing way to spend a few hours in the Arizona sunshine!
Great trip! The guide cowboy Joe was great and the horses were well taken care of. Nice couple of hours ☀️
I'm so glad we found Cave Creek on Trip Advisor! Making reservations was easy. Finding it was easy. It is a really nice ranch with fun out buildings and picnic tables - and nice, clean restrooms! My friend had ridden elsewhere that didn't have any. The ride was through the desert with gorgeous views. We saw a few animals, but we had a chatty person in our group that probably scared most of the animals off. Our wrangler, James, was fun and helpful. He told us about our surroundings. He took pictures for us. In general, he made the trip fun and interesting for everyone. They paired us with great horses and helped us as little or as much as we needed. I highly recommend Cave Creek!
Five members of my family went on a Sunday morning, 2 hour ride. Call the day before, to get a spot. We went 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., which I was glad of, as the day heated up. Experienced staff made sure the horses were matched to our riding experiences. Jeff, our wrangler gave us lots of info re the Desert, plants, wildlife, during our 2 hour horseback walk. Horses did occasionally trot, when negotiating small hills. I would return.
I took my two kids and their friend -- ages 12, 13 and 15. We did the 2-hour ride and we all are beginners. So the horses mostly walked. Though they'd be bored with the peacefulness and walking. They weren't. My son, especially, can't stop talking about it. Great outdoor family time!
My wife and I did the 2hour ride in early January. The day got off to a good start when Cheryl picked us up from our hotel. She was friendly and easy to talk with. Our tour guide Jeff was great. He was very knowledgeable about the desert, plants and animals. He also showed off his photography skills by taking some great photos of us on horseback. We are inexperienced riders and our horses Annie and Juno were expertly chosen for us. Our 2hour ride through the Sonoran Desert was peaceful and relaxing. We can highly recommend this tour. Thank you Cheryl and Jeff for making our experience memorable.
We usually come to Phoenix/Scottsdale for a week to thaw out during Spring break. We love being lazy by the pool but we also try to choose a couple of family friendly adventures. This place was first recommended to us by the concierge at the Marriott Desert Ridge villas. It was easy to find by car.I was impressed with the professionalism of the outfit - they were very organized and good about sorting out quickly who was a good fit with which horse. I used to ride a bit but my pre-teen daughter is new to riding. We did the two hour ride - the first one of the day so it was still nicely cool. Our guide was informative and great about showing interesting landscape items and it was a thoroughly enjoyable ride. Some good corny jokes too. I agree with some other reviewers that it would have been made better if there was some room in the ride for the horses to do more than walk in a straight line. I would do it again, including for a longer ride.
I live here in the area and have my own horses. Usually when I have family vistiting, we do the "horse experience" with our own horses. That entails a lot of extra work and stress on my part. This time, I decided to gift an Arizona Experience to my family and enjoy it too!For the Christmas Holiday my two sisters, two teenage nephews and I all went on a two hour ride with Luis as our guide. What Fun! The horses were well suited to our individual level of experience- from total greenhorn to experienced horse trainer. The mid-day sun kept most of the wildlife hidden from view but the route that Luis took us was breathtaking and oh so amazing. This is a well-run facility with well-kept horses and people who really care about the experience and the well-being of their guests. Thanks to Todd and Luis and all the team. We'll be back next time we have out-of-state vistors who want to go on a trail ride.
My family went to visit Scottsdale, AZ during the Thanksgiving week and I planned a 2 hr horseback ride and James was our wrangler. He was AWESOME! James was funny and entertaining during our ride as well as educational. He knew a lot about the desert and plant life, along with telling some good stories. Even our 6 year old daughter got to ride her own horse and did very well on the 2 hour tour. We had a great time and highly recommend going to Cave Creek Outfitters for horseback riding and having James as your wrangler. We had a GREAT time and hope to visit again soon!!
Walking only though and we like to canter. Girls loved the scenery and the cowboys were very informative about nature etc
Had a beautiful 2 hour ride on three wonderfully tempered horses! Thanx for a beautiful ride. Friendly staff, well kept horses. The area is beautiful!
Enjoyed ride. Could have been a better experience with more flexibility on horse placement on trail. Can't ride side by side; lead horse was really slow but dominant. It was like the pony rides at carnivals that can't go out of the circle. Overall it was fun.
My eleven-year old daughter and I took an hour-long ride on a Monday morning. Our guide, Luis, did a great job and was very easy with us. It had been a few years since I had ridden a horse, but my daughter has had riding lessons and camp, so she was fine. Our ride was only walking slowly out in the desert. The two-hour ride seems to have some trotting and cantering. Not much wildlife to see, but we did see a jack rabbit running along. If you and your city kids have had all the shopping and antiseptic fun you can stand on your vacation, take a ride on a horse out in the desert; it's the real deal.
