We stayed here for 3 nights in the Chulo Casita - the smallest and least expensive - perfect for the 2 of us. Hiked the Nature Trail several times at different times of the day and the Bass Canyon Trail. Muleshoe is truly a special place - beautiful surroundings, lots of birds (and snakes). As others have said, bring everything you need with you - it is a LONG way by dirt road to the closest store. The casita we stayed in was very comfortable - one room with a 2 burner stove, small fridge, table and chairs and a comfy bed - and best of all, a claw foot tub! We spent most of our time outside, hiking or sitting on the shaded courtyard watching the birds at the feeders. Staff is great - patiently answering our many questions and coming to get us when they spotted something they knew we would be interested in seeing.
This desert hideaway offers several miles of trails, an unusual hot tub, and good birding. The casitas are comfortable and well maintained.
We love this place. We've stayed there a few times & I can't wait to go back. Bring all your supplies with you. Stock up in Wilcox on anything you might need because it's a long drive out on the gravel road. We really enjoyed the trails and our unique casita (small house). The birding is fabulous.
We have been backpacking in the Galiuro Wilderness around Redfield Canyon many times but this was the first time we've been to Muleshoe Ranch, aka Hooker Hotsprings. The place is incredible and the birding and wildlife are fantastic. My wife, daughter and I stayed in the stone cabin for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed.
We (two long-time men friends) spent a week here and loved it. We werre the only guests and saw no one else on the trails we took -- just a few hunting camps on the primitive road leading to the more remote areas. Don't expect luxury or any entertainment other than what you provide by enjoying the natural areas. We found that a Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4-wheel drive vehicle was suitable for getting over what is laughing called a road through the desert and mountain areas. After hikes we could enjoy the hot tubs fed by a natural hot spring. Dae and Cliff, the managers, are fine people and were very helpful in pointing us to trails that could be managed by elderly men.
