crystal forest loop

Good collection of fallen petrified trees.. Great color in some of them. A nice easy loop walk...don't take any wood ! Leave it for a to enjoy!!

Nice, short stroll on a hot summer day. Better examples elsewhere, but these were very nice and quite accessible. Got a kick out of the "Petrified Forest Fire Department" truck parked in the lot that day. Were they there in case of a "Petrified Forest Fire"? What do they use, Hard Water?

This was another relatively easy, but unique hike. I felt like I was on a foreign landscape, maybe the surface of the moon. Great experience and a good place to take photos. Not very crowded either.

the logs were destroyed by scavengers who used dynamite to break up the trees and then take the pieces and sell them. What a shame. This is still a wonderful and spiritual place to visit.

Did this easy loop walk but did not see many crystals left at all. Tourists over time have taken most of them. However we enjoyed the walk.

Took a lil loop around the petrified logs. Very interesting to see and feel BUT once you see some of the logs there isn't much else to see. It's pretty good walk and probably worth doing one time if you haven't already had enough of the stone logs.

We weren't thrilled with our trip through the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. There really isn't much to see. A few scenic pullouts and a couple short hikes is all you're allowed. The parking does not allow you to leave marked trails. Once you stop at a couple places, it all really looks similar. If you're close to the area, go ahead and take the drive through it, but don't make a special trip

This trail had the best quartz and amethyst crystals in the logs and was an easy trail to hike. What else can I say to make the required 50 characters?

When we arrived for our visit (Aug 12, 2014), this loop was under construction. We did walk a part of it, however, and it really is a completely unique landscape. There are many, many giant petrified logs to look at and the colors are astonishing. If you are in the park already, totally worth a quick stop.

Part of the trail was closed for repairs/re-paving so we walked about 3/4 of it and had to turn back. But the walk was very nice. Most of the crystals were reportedly removed by people through the decades but there are still plenty of good sights to enjoy.

I have always wanted to see the Petrified Forest because I could not picture in my mind trees that become rocks. This has been very educational and makes me want to research this more. It is worth taking every child to see these natural occurance.

We walked this .8 mile loop even though it was 100 degrees that day. It was hot, but it was worth it to see the beautiful examples of petrified logs. You get to see a lot for such a short walk and every log is different.

My mother & I took my 3 nephews, ages 5, 7, and 13 to the Crystal Forest, and to our surprise, they loved it. Even the 5-year-old was awed by the brilliant colours and the story of how they came to be. We walked the entire path - it's not far enough for most people to tire, except perhaps the infirm or elderly; we remained engaged the entire time. The sunset was spectacular with the monsoon clouds in the foreground. Highly recommended as an educational trip both you & your children will enjoy.

It is amazing those petrified logs and how they are still laying on the ground.The colors are marvelous: reds, oranges, blues, yellows or black and gray.I never saw those colors before, only black and gray.Besides the petrified logs you also can get a awesome view over the painted desert. We were there when the sun was going down.... The colors were as well spectacular. Stop at the shops close to the entrance or on the way to the park. Pay attention lots of the stuff they carry is not from local stones it can come from any place of the worldAnd finally, we recomend the route south - north we think it is best choice.We rented a car in Phoenix and pass thru the petrified forest and then in direction to Tusayan - Grand Canyon.Enjoy your trip!If you are planing a trip to Gran Canyon Include this visit.

This park is amazing and beautiful! A must for anyone with interests in Archeology, Paleontology, Anthropology, Paleobotany, or who just want to enjoy the beautiful wonders of nature!!! We took two teens in the dead of July heat and all had a good time here!!! MUST STOP IF IN THE AREA!!!
