The reason you should visit Skanderbeg castle is because of the importance it holds in the Albanian history. The castle was the center to very many historic moments. This was also the work grounds of the Albanian national hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg. The castle which goes by the name of Kruje houses a very informative museum that has a good amount of history about Skanderbeg and his works along with lights on Albanian history.
A nice view from the Shkodra area. An opportunity to live part of the history of this region. You could not miss.
An invitation to visit every Saturday the city of Kruja and the ancient city of Albanopolis in Albania. The place in which two historic period are crossed, beginning from the antiquity till the now days, the place where the Alban people have lived, where the Albania country took the name.Kruja ,the capital of Albania in the medieval period, the city symbol of brave. Inside the castle we can find out more about our national hero Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg
The view was amazing. Didn't venture into the castle as I was a little worried about where I parked my car. Don't believe the signs; there is parking at the top at the castle, which is free.
The wonderful casttle of our glorious hero Scanderbeg! Here you can 'touch' a part of the albanian history, read original documents which show how Scanderbeg united the albanians ang fought for the fredoom of the country! #the best view in albania from the top casttle! Worth visiting always!!
The museum is located inside Krujë Castle and the restored bazaar from the Ottoman period. Very nicely restored and fantastic views.
We spent our New Year's Eve here. The dinner, music, atmosphere, service... everything was superb. Must mention the view, off course.
This is one of the few castles in Albania that includes a formal comprehensive museum. I'd highly recommend it for anyone visiting who is interested in history.
Kruja is great place to visit and to introduce with Albania Culture and Great History. If you are planing to visit Albania, you must stop by and visit Kruje as well, do not miss it.
Great place to visit and to introduce tourists with Albania culture and history. You can eat good food in the area.
Nice part of Albanian history with good museum attached. Newly rebuild castle and beautiful surroundings. Well worth the visit.
The castle gives the history of the National hero, Skenderbeg. He was the first person to unite the Albanians against an invading foe, and so gain independence. So it is easy to see why he still plays an important part in the life of the county, so recently freed from communism. The museum in the castle is interesting to visit, but sometimes has the feel of a film set. On a good day the views from the castle are breathtaking. Its worth visiting early if you can, to escape the hoards of school children.
This is a beautifully constructed and curated museum. Tons of modern artwork depicting the history of Albania. Next to it is the ethnocentric museum. Do not miss this one. The 250 year old house is replete with ancient tools to grind corn, make raki, tan hides. The living spaces are a cultural education. For me the highlight was the fabulous displays of antique clothing. That left me breathless. There is a marvelous bazaar where you can purchase everything from antiques to shirts.
Fortunately we had an excellent guide with us to tour the castle and the adjoining museum. We had a better understanding of Skanderbeg and the history of Albania. The views from the castle are breathtaking. Kruja is a lovely town.
I was followed around the museum and lectured every time I tried to take a photo. The admission was not that expensive at 200lek. Bathrooms are Turkish style holes in the floor. Overall though, the castle has been nicely remodeled and provides beautiful views over the countryside.
