go back in time with some of the amazing artists of yesteryear, there is also some furniture dating back to olden days that are just sublime. Don't miss the doll house. It is a must see
Loved my visit to the Frans Hals, what I really liked was the app that the museum has that provides and audio guide! Though audio guides are free with your ticket I enjoyed using my own headphones. Very easy to do in under three hours.
If you enjoy visiting museums and like paintings, then Frans Hals is worthy of a visit. If sort of time and you prefer more variety visit Teylers museum instead.
This museum contains a fairly small selection of Frans Hals' painting, including several very large canvases. The collection is bulked up with paintings by other artists, including Proverbs by Pieter Breugal the Younger, which features an accompanying inter-active display. At the entrance to the museum, it’s well worth spending 5 minutes watching the introductory audio visual commentary about Frans Hals' life. Although in Dutch, you can listen to an English translation using the free audio guide. There’s also a nice little café, with a limited selection of food, which makes a good way to end your visit.
We enjoyed several of Frans Hals painting in the Rijks Museum. We decided to visit this museum and are so glad we did! Three are several other artists work feature as well. Be prepared to be on your feet for 3-4 hours to see everything. The free headsets allowed us to tour at our own pace. There is a cafe here also, which we did not sample.
The street the museum is in is in its self worth visiting.Visit Haarlem , visit the Frans Hals! They often have private collections too, And the appel taart with cream is very good !
Like most Musea, if you like the work of Frans Hals you will like your visit. Nice atmosphere and well taken care of.
This is a great museum displaying works by Frans Hals and also other Haarlem based painters. I particularly liked the Civic Guard paintings but also the history of the museum and also what it was previously. I used an audio guide which was very helpful. There is also a delightful little cafe where they do lovely food and I had an excellent local beer as well. There is also a cloakroom with lockers so you can leave your stuff there whilst walking around the museum.
Great collection beautifully displayed. Not just Hals, but others. Some from private collections seen for the first time!
This was a very friendly and accessible museum dedicated to the wonderful art of Frans Hals the 17th century dutch portrait painter. The museum is all on one level and is particularly accessible for the elderly or handicapped person. Lots of rooms interconnect and the ambience and general character of the building is a pleasure to experience. Paintings by other Dutch artists is also on view as is a superb example of a large doll house. The museum has a fine gift shop and friendly restaurant.
This museum is a 20 minute walk from the train station through the scenic centre of old Haarlem. The museum is on a quiet street and is housed in a series of 16th Century houses around a courtyard. The museum is a series of rooms, some with period furniture and there are displays of Frans Hals works but these are presented in context with other great (and not so great) artists of the period including Rembrant. In addition there is period furniture, sculpture, fabrics and porcelain on display. This museum is beautifully restored and works nicely presented. There is another Frans Hals Museum in the city square beside the Grote Kerk and is in Frans Hals house but this contains only contemporary art displays and paled by comparison so don't confuse museums.
