This arch must be viewed from a distance since it is in the middle of a roundabout. It is at the edge of the old area of Aosta and dates back to Roman times. It is just another feature that made our 3 hour walk around Aosta fascinating. I wonder why there is a crucifix in the middle of it?

The Arco Onorario d'Augusto or Arch of Augustus as it is more commonly known in English, was built in 25 BC, on the occasion of the Roman victory over the Salassi tribe. It is extremely well preserved for its age and building material (conglomerate stone blocks). It is located not far from the ancient city wall of Aosta which is another Roman construction. As some other reviewers have noted, it is a bit difficult to get to as far as walking right up to it as it is located within a roundabout or traffic circle so be careful when crossing the road. But, you do not have to walk right up to it if you just want to get a nice photo or two as it is easily visible without obstructions. The arch is also located near the city center and an ancient Roman amphitheater as well. The arch and other sites in Aosta are well worth the visit!

Interesting to see this well preserved arch. However, it is a little disappointing that this is in the middle of the road and not easily reached. Good for a photo opportunity though.

A few minutes walk outside Aosta town centre the arch is worth the small detour to get here. The arch dates from 25 BC and was built to commemorate the Roman army's victory over the local Salassi tribe. Although somewhat marooned amid a roundabout the views afforded to the roundabout are not obscured for 360 degrees and onc can get a good (if slightly distant) view of the arch - which is wonderfully complete and in excellent order for it's age. There is a lovely little cafe for Ice Creams on the Aosta side of the roundabout as well !

Visited Aosta and the Arco Augusto in August 2013 as part of a holiday to the Alps.Impressive arch, just a shame its in the middle of a traffic roundabout.Dont forget to see roman walled city remains while your in Aosta, and try the Ice cream and chocolates too.

essere vicino ad una imponente costruzione ti ricorda e ri riporta indietro nel tempo.forse anche una bella ripulita farebbe risplendere la sua bellezza.Comunque Bellissimo.

All'inizio del centro storico della città, l'arco appare ben conservato e pulito. Certo mancano i marmi degli archi di Roma, però è comunque molto suggestivo.

L Arco è uno dei principali punti di interesse di Aosta. Era la porta d entrata della città nel periodo romano e si collega alla porta praetoria un altro monumento simbolo della città. È impossibile visitare aosta senza passare ad ammirare almeno per un istante questo monumento simbolo.

O Arco Augusto está proximo da ponte romana que fica num lugar onde não há mais o rio, pois seu curso foi desviado ao londo do tempo. Aosta é uma cidade que deve ser conhecida... É a Roma dos Alpes... Muita coisa legal para ver...

Punto interesante de la ciudad. Es otro de los fragmentos que quedan de la antigua ciudad del Imperio Romano. ¡Fantástica para sacarse unas fotos!

Senz'altro scenografico come ingresso alla via principale della città, l'antico decumano. Ricorda un trionfo di Augusto, impossibile non notarlo inserito com'è al centro di una rotatoria ma ancora intatto nella sua maestosità. Da questo inizio si può già percepire l'antica anima romana di Aosta.

il bello nel visitare Aosta è scoprire le sue origini. Inizi dalla Piazza con la statua della lupa e con Romolo e Remo e comprendi quanto importante sia stata la presenza dell'Impero Romano in questa stupenda città.... poi arrivi alla Porta Pretoria e al Teatro Romano e dall'altra parte del centro storico all'Arco di Augusto. Imponente, importante e maestoso. Passano gli anni ma la testimonianza di un glorioso passato è sempre viva. Consiglio di vederlo da vicino...

Эта достопримечательность - одна из крайних точек на карте исторического центра Аосты. Практически все остальные места находятся в зоне ограниченного автомобильного движения. Однако вокруг арки - оживленное автомобильное движение и сложно сделать достойную фотографию из-за мелькающих автомобилей. Удивительно, как она до сих пор сохранилась!

Quando un turista come noi chiede indicazioni per il centro di Aosta, tutti indicano l'Arco di Augusto ; proprio al di là del torrente troneggia questo arco maestoso ed antico dal quale parte la lunga via centrale (ex- decumano) che conduce a tutte le attrattive romane e moderne di questa città ; peccato non poter sostare con tranquillità per ammirare da vicino i grandi blocchi di pietra che riescono per incanto a mantenere in piedi la bella struttura aerea.

Costruito nel 25 a.C. dopo la vittoria dei Romani sui Salassi ad opera di Aulo Terenzio Varrone Murena. Esso si trova in asse con il decumanus maximus, poco distante dal Bourg Saint-Ours (quartiere della Collegiata di Sant'Orso) e dall'ingresso orientale della cinta muraria (la Porta Prætoria).Da vedere assolutamente.
