This was without a doubt the most amazing thing I've seen in Bergamo. The panoramas the tower gives you are just incredible ! It costs 3€ to enter which is really not much for the view you get (and which you can't get from anywhere else as far as I know). There are quite a few steps so if you're unfit take the elevator ;)
Great 12th Century Civic tower with an observational platform with amazing views .Steps up are not for the unfit but the lift is like something out of willy wonkas chocolate factory. Entrance fee was reasonable at 3.50 and tickets can be purchased in the office underneath the steps at the base of the tower. I wouldn't want to be in the tower when the bell rings! Fortunately thats 22:00 and the tower is closed.Toilets available free in the building - but they were not very clean
All my reviews of the sights in Bergamo have mentioned climbing and this one is no different. We climbed the stairs rather take the lift and were glad to have done so as we were able to watch Bergamo (or rather Citta Alta) unfold beneath us. The views from the top platform are superb with several information boards explaing the different views available. The boards are in Italian and English to are very handy.
I unfortunately couldn't manage to go up, but you can climb it and I've seen photos, it's well worth it. Go see inside the museum!
Climb up this old bell tower before lunch and you will feel like you deserve a great meal! (don't worry - there's also an elevator) Marvelous views of the city. A must for visiting Bergamo!
A visit to Bergamo is presumably about savoring the vista from the old city, Citta Alta. Do yourself a favor and savor the views from the top of this 54 metre bell tower. The views speak for themselves and it's an easy climb compared to some monster buildings like the Dom in Cologne or St Stephens in Vienna. Or just take the elevator which is a very nice touch. If you're tired of fumbling for euros, just buy the Bergamo Card at locations such as ticket office of the bus station (adjacent to the train station) and lock down easy access to the Campanone and other attractions for only 10 euros for 24 hrs. Furthermore the local transport system is included too so after a long day of wandering the Citta Alta it's nice to be able to take a bus back to the train station and not even have to figure out what the fare is.
Don't think twice - just climb the 12th century tower (or take a lift). It's free with the Bergamo Card or 3 euros without. Great views to Citta Alta and San Vigilio hill. When we were enjoying the view at 3pm, the bells started ringing. And they were ringing loudly, so be careful.
Only 3 euro's to get to the top. You can use a lift or walk up and the view from the top is just superb. Well worth it !
This old tower was substantially reconstructed (even as far as fitting it with a modern elevator) but still maintains its medieval look and offers visitors great views of the old and new city and of the hilly surroundings. 6 EUR for a visit might sound too much but it is a rather unique spot!
A medieval towar next to the originbal seat of power "Il palazzo della Ragione" Every evening it would tall 100 times to warne villagers to come within the walls if war bands where about. The vie from the top, on a clear day is magnificent!
This is the bell tower of the city of Bergamo. For a small fee you can climb the many many stairs of the tower or take the elevator to the top and enjoy a gorgeous view of the city. On each side of the top floor, there are information panels with illustrations that tell you the names of the buildings that you see. Be careful and don't hit your head under the low passages of the last staircases. And be also careful and keep an eye on your watch because every thirty minutes the bells go off and they are very loud.
I liked the fact that I could choose between a lift and stairs. There are beautiful views from the top, I really enjoyed it.
Like many others, I loved the view from the campanone. My wife's arthritis also liked the fact that there is a lift/elevator up to the first viewing platform. The upper platform is 40 or so steps up via a narrow staircase and worth the effort since the view of the area is less obstructed by the structure. All in all, a must do for Bergamo.
This tower appears to be one of the highest points in Bergamo (in higher old town). Allows you to see around the old town and the snow-capped mountains to the north. For the sake of a few Euro, it's worth a look, if you're in the old town of Bergamo.
The visit is free with Bergamo card, there is an elevator, and the view is amazing (they have signs to point what buildings you are seeing). The building and bells are very interesting too
