Ride the small engine boat and visit this small island with its picturesque castle. Find yourself living 2 centuries ago in an -out of this world -enviroment
The underwater fortress, which was known by the Turkish name Bourtzi, that tower is a landmark of the city of Nafplion.Initially the island, which is in the middle of the port, there was a Byzantine church dedicated to St. Theodore. The Bourtzi functioned as a fortress until 1865. After previous was the residence of the executioners that performed the executions of death row prison Palamidi.
It was a short little boat ride to the Fortress and 20 minutes there was just enough to get a feel for the place and take some pictures. Totally worth 4 euros and nice to see Nafplio and Palamdi from that angle.
Nice place, amazing view from the castle. The sea is so beautiful.Fantastic enjoy travel with ship!!!!
We liked this place a lot as it has a fantastic view of the whole town and the castle on the hill top. The boat trip to the castle was fun. The building need to be restored properly. The sunset view is fantastic.
Bourtzi Fortress was in built in 1473 on top of a rock island. It is in the harbour entrance of Nafplio and a popular tourist destination. There is no ticket office, you pay on board before the boat leaves the port. The boat taxis are lined up at the start of the harbour front promenade opposite Grande Bretagne Hotel. The price is 4 euros per person for the boat trip. The boat trip only takes a few minutes. You can take amazing pictures of Nafplio from the boat. Once you get off the boat, you have approximately twenty minutes to look around and take photos of Bourtzi, the Argolic Gulf and Nafplio. We started from the top of the fortress and worked our way down. The boat will signal its horn when it is time to go back. Well worth a visit.
If you are at Nafplion dont hesitate to take the first boat and visit Bourtzi - the small fortress in the sea. Its the Landmark of this historical city. Except your free walk in and around this rock - fort the amazing thing is the view to the town, a view that only you as visitor can have.
Bourdji or sometimes written as Bourtzi is a beautiful Medieval castle which stand in the port of Nafplion Peloponnese. The entrance is free but you only have to pay 4 Euros for the roundtrip with a boat to get there. The castle has not much to show inside except for a few cannons but the panoramic view around the Argive gulf will reward you. Unfortunately there are no historical references written inside the castle so make sure you read about it before visiting. The castle itself gets 5 stars but because of the lack of information I will give it 4 stars.Trip advisor's picture of the monument is wrong. The castle shown is Palamidi and not Bourdji.
The fort in the middle of the harbor is eerily beautiful. For 4 euro, a boat will take you across to the island and wait while you explore; you only get 20 minutes on the island, but it is quite small and that's plenty to take it all in. The boat is also unmarked, just look for the man trying to attract tourists! The fort is so quiet and all you can hear is the sound of the wind, the waves, and the boats. There are no panels or tour guides, you just walk around and explore where you will. I found it far more interesting than the Palamidi fortress on the hill!
4 euros to get the boat across to this old castle/prison. Quite eerie feel to it looking around .........shame there was no information boards as you go around......only downside was although there was only 4 of us, the boat owner only gave us 20 minutes to look around which wasn't long enough.great views of Nafplio from there.......and definitely worth a visit...
Well worth the 3 euros for the short boat trip across to Bourtzi...beautiful view of Nafplio and Bourtzi itself was interesting and free entry...there were also clean toilets :) could have done with an extra 15 minutes before the return boat ride though ;)
