We thought we might head along to a service (which we then found out was only on the first Sunday of the month). Anyway those who were about were incredibly welcoming, showed us the church and were keen to invite us to other things. It was also great to be able to ask some local ex-pats some tips!
A beautiful little church, nestled away behind the castle and still very much a part of the community
This is a beautiful little church in the centre of Old Kyrenia. It's only small, but it's cool and a quiet place to rest and reflex. It has a special meaning to me as there is a brass plaque at the back of the church in memory of my grandfather who used to worship there.
Our tour of Crusader castles included this one. Interesting if that is your thing, and strenuous. As a former engineer, I wonder how on earth they ever got these structures built.
we went to one of the Sunday morning services. The preaching was sound, the songs familiar from "Hymns Ancient and Modern" and congregation friendly. The building itself is just a plain, white cross-shaped building. We had coffee and spoke to a few folks there which was interesting as they all have very different backgrounds but have come together to give a unified witness to Christ in what is a nominal Muslim country.
Situated betweeen the main car park and Kyrenia Castle and at the very top of the 'high street', the building has been here for 100 years (built in 1913, on land given by a member of the british community). On Sundays, it is usually full and on weekdays, it is open to be visited by tourists and locals, just looking for somewhere to sit and reflect. The building is worth a visit for its own sake, whatever your beliefs may be.
Beautiful little church with some lovely needlework/wall hangings. We went for the licensing of their new lady priest. Worth seeing the church which is close to the large car park.
If you are visiting N. Cyprus and want to go to an Anglican service, this is the (only) place to go.We went to a Sunday morning Eucharist, with about 100 English speaking ex-pats and holidaymakers. After the excellent service and coffee in the basement, we were invited for coffee in a local café with a dozen of the church regulars. They then invited us to join them for lunch in a restaurant several miles out of Kyrenia (see my review for the Buffavento Restaurant), giving us a lift there and back.Lovely place, lovely people.........go and join them on a Sunday morning at 10.00am
