The war museum is in two places, under the Motherland monument and a little to the side with the open area section. The part under the Motherland monument is well presented and curated, there are some information sheets each gallery hall in English French and few other languages but there are no translations under exhibits to say what they are. This makes it quite hard to get an appreciation of what is going on in the telling of the story and exhibits are. The museum could really appeal more to foreigners if they put multi-lingual caption cards with exhibits on display. The outside museum area is quite average, there are a few planes, tanks, missiles but these are a bit average. Entry to this area is cheap, but you need to pay to take photos and to get into the planes. I think the State Aviation Museum is much better if you want to look at planes.Worthwhile looking at but you really need a guide or translator to get a lot out of it.
Interesting "open air" museum with all kind of airplanes and with the possibility to enter in cabins.Adviced 100%!
A museum that brings one closer to the spirit that reigns in this country. I found the exhibition very complete but missed the major part by not speaking the language...
Visited in July 2014. Very impressive, could have done with more English translation, I was lucky as I was with my girlfriend and a translator!
Very impressive museum. If your into WW2 and military hardware from a Soviet perspective, then this is the place to learn about it. Prepare to get your walk on though, the museum covers a large area. I've visited only once but plan to visit again. I hear one can go inside and up the centerpiece of the whole museum - the Motherland Monument Statue and get a birds eye view of Kiev from 36 meters up. The monument was closed to visitors the day we visited.
The museum is worth the time to visit! It is located on the hill side above the Dnipro River. The Mother Land Statue is part of the museum. It is a large museum (I have heard one of the largest in Ukraine) and includes a section where a number of pieces of World War II Military Equipment is displayed!
This place is great. I have been to this museum 4 times in the past 3 years and I learn something new every time I go. It is very interesting to hear different points of view and facts from different tour guides. Usually I only get 2-3 hours, which is definitely not enough if you want to walk thru an entire museum and read all the pictures, but it is good when you have a tour guide who can tell you different things about different places and periods of time, not only what's in their script. There is also an outdoor part of this museum with different tanks, air planes, and statues, which many people don't make it to, but this place can simple take up an entire day and I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it.
A visit to the somewhat grim "National Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" (It's actual name) is well kind of grim. One must bear the snow and ice on all approaches to enter. It is put together fairly well and even has some English cards to help we outsiders navigate the halls.
Very interesting place to visit to see the old red army hardware. If you are into warfare etc and this type of interest you will find it interesting. We were in the area so had a look around. I must say the statues around here and Kiev are something special.
It was interesting with a number of artillery pieces from a bygone era.A firm reminder that war really happens and we should not forget.
Very impressive park and interesting to know more about the east as a westerner however please include much more information in English as this would have improved the overall experience.
