Interesting ruins and reconstruction of ancient village. Lovely botanic gardens with birds. Good information on the boards in the parks
This hill fortress and look-out post is, I am told, the sole remaining example of a chain of similar defensive devices (possibly as many as 150) built by a pre-Incan tribe that came to develop a sort of federated state incorporating a substantial part of the surrounding region, including areas of Chile, Bolivia and Peru. They were eventually conquered by the Incas and little of their culture remains. However, excavations at this site have earned a rich harvest of artifacts, and the Museum at the foot of the path leading to the Pucara bears ample witness to many of these discoveries. It is hard to imagine that as many as 2,000 persons and their animals inhabited the site in its prime, but the excavations are attractively laid out and can be understood with the help of a guide in English given with the price of admission. The Museum is free, and an attractive cactus garden can be visited for a small fee. There is also a fascinating corral holding Alpacas and Llamas that makes a favourite background for photos. One other point: another reviewer has objected to the erection of a pyramidal entrance that may not have existed in the original. Frankly, I think that this enhances the visual excitement of the site. After all, 95% of Archaeological reconstructions are mere guess-work.
Preinca fortficacion, increible! Es altamente recomenado! My wife and I visited this area a few days ago. What can I say, dramatic mountainous landscapes, very impressive. Incredible views of the valley of the Rio Grande. It is a pre-Inca fortification. Amazing!! It is a must if you are travelling to Jujuy. Highly recommended!
You can easily spend an hour here and the signs are in English and there is an English brochure to pick up.
Would have like more information in English to understand the outside site. the museum is interesting.
Take 2-3 hours, no need for car as you can get there by walking from any place of the town. Lovely visit, Interesting place.
This fort is on top of a hill. Nice renevated. I did not realize that the inca's did arrive in Argentina. Small walk from the village Tilcara. Also nice view over the highway.
The pucara is a restored pucara , and nice to walk around , but when they put in a pyramid on top , they destroyed the authenticity of the place . The people in South America never build a pyramid . So what is the meaning of it ? To attract ignorant tourists ? I wasn't very enthousiastic about it , I hope you will neither .
The view from the top of the ruins are first-class. Opt to walk up the ruins by the longer route, which snakes through the ruins and tall sentinel cactuses. After which, you can take the shorter but less photogenic route down to the car park. Go with a tour agency for a guided tour and commentary.
cost 25 pesos to see re-contraction of old buildings and botanic garden for cactus. Cactus were cool !
