The zoo is well maintained and on most days very packed with people. I would go again next time I am in the city.... I think if you get bad reviews about it, it would be leaning more towards the believe that animals should be free in the jungle and not in a zoo....Putting the politics about zoos behind for a second, It is a nice place to visit.....
Great place or visit, lots to see and the right price. You can almost make a day of it visiting the zoo and the animals are well taken care of. I will go back and visit the zoo next visit to Barranquilla.
Barranquilla Zoo have a lot of animal but a lot no mean depressing. Cages are too small some of the feature animals a quite asleep all the day long at any time, also many of them only have one specie or gender. I know they are planning to move to somewhere else to have it like the Bronx Zoo.I hope to see it when it is there.
Honestly, it can be quite the downer to go to this zoo. The cages are small, and most of the exotic animals live alone (one zebra, one elephant, one tiger, one white-tailed deer, etc.) The elephant's area is quite small, no shade, and surrounded by an electric fence. That being said, if you need a place to bring young children, this could work for an afternoon. There's a petting zoo with goats that you can feed and one cow you can pet, there are peacocks and iguanas roaming freely throughout the zoo as well. But honestly, just take the family to the beach, it's less depressing.
We went to the zoo had a interesting time small zoo but nice very good price had many animals that have not seen before.
There is just not enough space to properly keep the animals that they have in the zoo. It is undeniable that the zoo has improved in the last years but there is simply not enough space. The animals feel cramped and restricted. And that is why it is depressing. Animals in captivity are never a good thing but if at least they have space, and room to roam you can feel at least ok about them being there. And that is not the case at the Barranquilla zoo.
A sad zoo where the animals are closed in small and dirty cages. I still remember a poor elephant in a tiny room. What a pity.
Tiny but pretty decent. Good animalvariety. I think some of it was under renovation though. All my mosquito bites come from there :)
although I'm not a fan of trapped animals, there is a wide variety and caretakers are always keeping an eye of the animals inside. Tuesdays and thurdays there a living zoo where you can touch some of the animals(not lions of course!!)
the lady who guided and walked thru the zoo had good knowledge of each group of animals living there, was very nice and patient with the kids, even when they were able to feed the animals. we wanted to leave her a tip but she was not allowed to get any money due to the zoo rules for the employees.
A fun place to go everybody was very Courteous a good plan for a family day, well kept for a zoo in Colombia we will be back !
I like animals and exotic birds. I get to see that here. other than that. it is a third world country. its cheap. Worth going. for a quick relaxing trip
Compare to other zoos in the world, this is a small one, you can't see the many different kinds of animals you wish to, most of them are sleeping regardless of the hot temperature, bad smell could be reach in most of the cages, working people inside look lazy to cooperate with tourist's necessity, needs to be improved!
I was afraid to see just a few animals on this zoo, but to my surprise they a have a lot species on this Zoo, the kids had a blast during this visit, the best thing you can do, is going early to take advantage of the timing, the caf is complete, so don't bother to take food with you, I think they don't allow you to bring food any way.
It is a nice place to see exotic animals, a good sense of nature, it is relatively quiet but very comfortable, you can drink a soda an let kids play with farm animals
