Plan your visit to coincide with the flowering season! The gardens are spectacular! A fabulous place to take family members to escape from the rat race and remember how beautiful nature can be. This is an opportunity to remember how to slow down, take a quiet relaxed stroll and enjoy the company of others in a unique setting.

The title says everything, I guess our visit timing was off during onset of Summer. Dead plants, wilting flowers and dusty pathways wasn't part of the plan when we landed. We exited the place in 15 quick minutes.

Very quiet, pleasant spot; beautiful gardens - we had a tea party here one sunny autumn afternoon. It was simply gorgeous!

Bernie is a very nice place to visit but the jewel in the crown has to be the Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden. I have visited the garden a number of times, it is my favourite place to go when arriving by cruise ship. It does not matter what time of the year you visit there is always something to enjoy in this beautiful garden. The planning of the garden is inspirational and the variety of Rhododendrons, their colours and perfume are lovely. It is not unusual to be surprised by any of the many native animals that inhabit the garden. Last visit I saw spotted Quolls and this visit an Echidna. The volunteer guides are very knowledgable and friendly. I highly recommend the home made scones and jam with a nice cup of tea in the volunteer run cafe. There is a small entry fee.On days when the cruise ship visits there is a Hop on Hop off Bus from the visitors centre which includes the garden on its route, the entry fee to the garden is included in the fare. Alternately there is a free shuttle from the boardwalk in the centre of the beach to the garden, the fee is paid on arrival at the garden.

We visited with friends and had an absolutely wonderful time walking through the gardens. There's a lot more than Rhododendrons to see. Well worth a visit, even if you are not a green finger like myself

A really beautiful garden with all work done by a brilliant crowd of volunteers. I especially love the Japanese Garden section but it is all lovely. An easy walk for the able bodied & accessible by car if visitors cannot walk too far. There is a very good little cafe with lovely food & a superb view of the gardens & distant Bass Strait from the cafe windows.It is also possible to scatter the ashes of your loved one here - we scattered the ashes of my in-laws beneath a beautiful Ginkgo biloba, with a plaque commemorating them. They loved to visit & stroll around the gardens when they were able & we deemed it fitting that they should rest there & we can remember them when we visit.

Having visited the National Rhododendron gardens in Victoria, this is as good just a smaller scale and you are able to drive through the gardens if unable to walk it. It has a hilly layout but the flowers of the cherries, azaleas and Rhodos are gorgeous. Great value and it is all done by locals a real credit to them.

The gardens far exceeded my expectations. We were immersed in a blaze of colour from the start. The variety of species was very interesting. The garden layout is captivating with many walking paths leading in different directions beside lakes, over bridges, past sheltered spots with garden seats & all the while surrounded by colour. A photographer's delight!

Driving my garden-loving Nan around Tassie for two weeks and this was on the to-do list. She is rather mobility impaired now and the ability to drive around the estate and see nearly all the wonderful sites was great. Even for a non-garden lover, I appreciated the gardens (despite not being able to pick which was the Rhododendron's). The weather was great and there were several families picnicing around the lake. We had lunch in the cafe - staffed by very helpful volunteers and great prices but horrible coffee!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this beautiful array of colours, the wonderful flowering scents and magnificent world class Rhododendron Valley about 10 minutes from the heart of Burnie. What an absolute credit to all involved with the superb planning and expansion of the whole complex. You can relax with a coffee and meal and take in the views, they even cater for special occasions and functions. A motorised buggy is available, as well as a handy Plant Shop.It's a photographer's paradise and a definite for you to visit, particularly now!

We visited in September and were astounded by the variety and condition of this garden. Calming and serene what a joy. Only $10 or pensioners $8. for a days enjoyment. The garden has ponds, pavilions and flowers galore. Have something to eat that the volunteers prepare at very good prices. You should give it a go .

There is nothing better than a stroll around the gardens to de-stress. The new Chinese pavilion is a beautiful addition and very authentic. Sections are devoted to various areas of the world and I believe it has the largest collection of rhododendrons in the world.One time I was there and saw a platypus in the pond and then looked up to see a pair of the very rare (& endangered) Tasmanian wedge tailed eagles circling lazily high above. The real treasure here are the volunteers - they own the Garden and look after it exceptionally well plus make some nice sandwiches.I strongly recommend a visit here especially in rhodo blooming time around October.
