We only saw this Reserve from the bus but it looked very nice and a great place to picnic or BBQ and watch the sunset
I know Darwin was bombed in World War II but was not sure to what extent if you believe the movie "Äustralia"!!! At the East Point Reserve they have a short film using actual photos taken and it i very moving and made you realise just how close we came to be infiltrated during this war. The damage was widespread and this was verified by personal accounts using a touch screen from various people who had survived. There is a lot of old trucks and memorabilia from this time and a very lovely monument to the American sailors who were killed on the various war ships that were at anchor in the Harbour. We walked to the top of the gun implacement and that was worth the walk. It is wonderful to see such history preserved (even if the guns were sold to Japan for scrapmetal!!!). "Australia" may not have been so far fetched after all!!!
At East Point Reserve the remains from WWII relics and the remnants of the bombings of Darwin are a great way to see just how close the war came to Australia. The museum itself on site is second to none. The most comprehensive collection of war memorabillia I have seen and the grounds are so well maintained and so relaxing it is a must see while in the top end.
A great venue to see native wildlife, throw a ball, fish, BBQ, picnic, or watch the sunset! No entrance fee, good facilities, and a nice change from the city!
I love this place. It can be anything to anyone. A place for BBQs, picnics, swim in the water, watch the sunset, jog, walk, take your dog for a walk. Very easy to get to. Always easy to get a park. No entry fee either.
This is my favourite place in darwin. Great place for a family picnic with a large playground. If your into walking/cycling etc there is a fantastic track they goes right around East point. There is distance markers on the track and exercise equipment ever km or so.If you go during low tide you can get some lovely photos Only down side is you can't bring your family dog.
A real sense of history with the buildings from WW11.Amazing views of crystal clear water. But you can only look at the ocean!!
A great place to cycle around. There's a good trail, it's safe and interesting, and the views are terrific. There's also a short forest walk, an attractive playground and barbecue facilities and military artefacts.
The lake is good for swimming but the floor feels weird and dirty on your feet. Nice cool area to relax after work, seen a few great sunsets here too.
Lake Alexander is within the park. So all the facilities available there are within this reserve. Additionally there is the East Point lookout for watching the magnificent sunsets are the spectacular Darwin electrical storm. There is a model aero plane club and the World War 2 museum and a range of WW2 relics and sites. There is also a pony club. The nature walks and wildlife are amazing to watch. I like to walk around the park, there are plenty of tracks for cycling as well. Pee Wees Restuarant is within this reserve and offers high quality dining with some of the best views of Darwin City. There is something for everyone here and I love it.
Loved & My Favourites place for Darwin City viewing, family BBQ, Sunset & Wallabies viewing. Frequent visitor of this place & it's free. Can be a venue for family event or children parties.
I love coming here to watch the sunrise and sunset! Just magical. I just wish the local police patrolled the area better and moved on confronting drunk people and backpackers
A 10 minute drive from the CBD this park offers great views across Fannie Bay. On a clear day you can see the other side. Beautiful weathered cliff faces show brilliant colours, and the sunsets are absolutely stunning away from the city lights. Pack the insect repellant as the Mosquitos enjoy the sunset also.
To get to East Point reserve it's a little awkward. And if it's hot, I suggest you take a car, because it's a fair distance (around 2.5 tropical km's from the nearest bus stop). If you're acclimatised to heat, there is a walkway and bicycle track. It is very picturesque area, and there is seating in which you can watch the sunset. If you're on public transport : take the number 4 and get off at Fannie Bay (it's the stop opposite the BP service station, after you go around the corner). In a car : there is heaps of good car parking spaces, and great walking and places to picnic Bike : take the bike track that goes along the foreshore Walk : only do this if you're superfit, and game, and if you do, take a brolly (this is the tropics the weather can change), sunscreen, fluids and food, becuase you don't want to get heat stroke out there. Great place to sit and share a picnic, and take good photos of Darwin Harbour. There are also various picnic spots that you can sit at with your friends. I don't suggest that you walk here on your own after dark. It's not safe, even for locals. Please do take someone with you to enjoy the view!
Neat and tidy, with plenty of views and photo opportunities.A great little distraction, particularly late in trhe afternoon.
