Why pay for inflatable slides and all that plastic! sliding down a rock, no way of stopping/chickening out is just unbelievable!!! definetly have to bring something to slide down, board/tube/something. could be a better attraction if there is some investment into safety infrastructure.
I went to Rere rockslide with my friends family with children aged 12-16 and we had a blast. It was a cloudy day meaning we had the rockslide all to our selves. Before leaving ( it took us a while considering the drive takes approximately 1.45hrs ) I was rather nervous because of all the bad things I had heard about people injuring themselves. As it happens I had nothing to fear and like most attractions like these it was fun so long as you were reasonably sensible. I would highly recommend it for family's with teenagers and children ( 7+ ) as well as teenagers. Another plus was the champagne pools ( not heated ) just a quick drive down the road. There is no sign so do keep your eyes peeled for a little path down the hill. The walk to the pools is rather steep but if you can make it I also recommend it. I would love to go there again and for a natural attraction with a lot of bad publicity I was pleasantly surprised.
take a boogie borad or an innertube with you and prepare to have the fastest slide of your life..a great place and fun day
We watched two young adults having a marvelous time sliding down the rock and shooting out over the pool at the base. Only drawback was - who is in charge of cleaning this up? We went at 5pmish in summer. Much rubbish, including plastic etc in the pool which took away the pleasure. A free attraction, and no doubt a long way for the Council to travel to keep clean?
If you want to try this then take a boogie board or tire, although we did see a few using an inflatable mattress.Sadly this trip we just got to watch. Back next time by car!
Iconic east coast & deservedly so! Beautiful , adventurous, fun - put it on your list and do it. Take a picnic and make a day of it, we wish we did
I live in Gisborne and have regulated the rock slide every summer since a baby. This is a must do if ever visiting our beautiful town. Pack a picnic or bring your BBQ it is all free and only 40mins out of town. I would recommend getting there as early as possible so you can pick the best spot to set up.
A wonderful waters slide down a long very smooth rapid , , but take your own cheap boogie board, to sit on, ending up in a wide calm river hole , lots of fun all free, participant fun as well as spectator fun watching the others from the grassy bank above .as they go whizzing do we on boogie boars but also rubber tyres etc. bring your own eats, drinks etc for a picnic and make a day of it in this piece off the New Zealand nature and the great outdoors, nothing commercial here. well worth the ride to get there and a established fa pyrite got those in the know after the rhythms and vines festival , and for all the family. We did it as a family outing and both the dads, mums and teenagers as went down, but there were lots there bunches of friends there obviously having
What a great place! We took a BBQ down and set up a picnic for family and friends and had a great day the water is chilly at first but with the sun beating down and the thrill of the rock slide you soon forget. We will definitely be visiting this place a few more times this summer!! Each side of the rockslide creates for a different ride, we had inner tubes, boogie boards and even an air bed which was the best for 2 to 3 person rides.Awesome.
Lovely for photos on a nice sunny day, took a lovely picture that I will use many times in the future.
I was so scared! I wasnt going to go down this massive natural rockslide... but I DID and it was awesome! Make sure you go down on the left hand side and not the right hand side because the right hand side has pointy rocks unlike the other side! SO amazing here and better than going to the swimming pool!
Unfortunately the Gisborne area had been experiencing rain for weeks on end so all we could see was a torrent of water rushing down. Obviously would be a whole lot better in summer!
Never saw such a long rockslide before. It's pretty big and I bet it's a lot of fun if you are equipped. I wasn't, so I just had a stroll along the river and down where the slide ends.Should be good for a summer day.
I love Rere rockslide and regularly travel to go there during the summer months. It's beautiful, unique and refreshing plus a lot of fun. You can slide down on your bottom, a tyre inner or boogie board if you bring them but either way I bet you'll have fun
Loads of fun going down a natural rock slide. Bring a float of some sort and a wet suit and you're ready to go. It's a little slippery when walking across the river. Water was pretty cold as well, but it's winter now. Just a couple of other people when we visited so it wasn't crowded at all and not totally deserted. Only did it once since I had to borrow a friend's wetsuit. Would recommend dropping by if you're up for a little action and getting wet. There's a bathroom there as well, so don't be worried about changing.
