I am very impressed with this 4000 hectarce, or acre, park, but I think hecartar, nestled right against Ness Lake. It has free wood, woodstove, mountain bike and XC ski trails and kayaking of Circle Lake (with the crazy cabin at the back of the lake you would never know is here if you didn't kayak/canoe it). We have snowshoed, kayaked and cross counry skied this park and it ai truly beautiful spot in the BC Parks system...makes Ness Lake that much more beautiful. The drive in is long but well worth it. There is a circuit of lakes that can be skiied in the winter or canoed in the summer. Great spot....about 42km NW of Prince George, BC. Please do not come here to cause trouble.
Whether hiking in the summer or cross country skiing in the winter this is a beautiful place to explore.
Beautiful trail in the easy to moderate category. Be prepared for some hills - for the new hiker/ walker - if you take your time and rest occasionally you will have no problems and will enjoy great scenery and a lovely well travelled trail that is easy to walk on. It is approx 45km (half hour drive) from Prince George city centre to the trail head. Depending on direction of travel - you can walk (approx 1.2km) along a sandy access road that gradually takes you uphill to a trail junction on the right (15 to 20 minutes). Trail is packed and easy to walk on - takes you around Ridgview lake with great views from the highest point - 2 benches allow you to sit and enjoy the view of the lake, fresh summer breezes and wonderful aromas from pine, spruce, and balsam trees as well as many varied flowers - roses, paintbrush, fire weed, and others. A short hike of 15 minutes brings you to a junction. Go right and from this point it is all down hill back to the trail head (approx. 1.4km). If you are interested the trails can take you further afield - double the walk distance or more. Next trip we will do the longer loop. Bug spray, bear bells and lots of water are recommended. Water, outdoor toilet and shelter is available at the trail head. ENJOY !!
This is a wonderful hike just outside of town. It offers well groomed trails and beautiful scenery. If you go all the way, there is this beautiful sandy beach that you can go swimming. There are different hikes, depending on how hard you would like to go. If you need to escape for a day, I would highly recommend this place!
This is a lovely, accessible park just 20 minutes from Prince George. Well-groomed trails. Various routes, depending on how hard you may want to hike. Excellent for day-hiking. Lots of park signs pointing out various plants, etc. Has nice points-of-interest such as a beaver-pond viewing platform. Near the main entrance to the park are some picnic tables as well. Easy to find & even has good parking.
This is a wonderful hiking experience just west of town on Ness Lake Road. There are trails for various levels of hikers and of varying lengths. The one closest to the parking lot is wheelchair accessible with views over a wildlife nature lake. Some of the trails follow the tops of an esker. Trails access a number of different lakes and hiking is available here year round.
A small provincial park some 25 to 30 kms north of Prince George, it offers well kept trails through an undulating landscape. We walked the 12 km Lake Kathie loop. The eskers are tree covered ridge lines running between glacial remnant lakes. They allow good advantage points for sitting and absorbing the surrounds, especially the colours or the lakes and trees. Mostly aspen, lodgepole and douglas firs with some evidence of the mountain pine beetle. Lots of birdlife with woodpeckers, warblers and ducks as well as some of the best beaver dams you will ever see.
Eskers is a beautiful park to hike. It's a little bit of a drive down Chief Lake rd, not bad though. There are a few trails through the bush, up some minor hills, through an open field, one passes a little lake. It's quite lovely in there, nice fresh woods smell!
If you enjoy the woods and hiking then this is the place for you. Many trail and lengths to choose from. Easy trials to walk well groomed and a great place to have a picnic too. Bring along your pet if you like too.
Great place to spend the day Hiking, a couple small little lakes as you come into this park. Ness lake is also just a few minutes away. There is lots of hiking and walking trails here, although there were signs for no biking and dogs must be on leash at all times. If you don't mind packing in a Canoe or Kayak there seems to be some good spots just a few minutes walk. Also this park offers some large huts and picnic areas. (Be aware this is Wildlife area, be sure to bring some bear spray just in case)This park is a ways out Chief Lake Rd, but only 15 - 20 minutes from the Hart Huskey (Chief Lake Rd, and John Hart Hwy Crossing)
Eskers Park is relatively close to town, has nice trails where you can see wildlife, plants etc. One area (not sure Circle or ?) has plants labeled and IDed with how Natives used the plant (and named it). Circle Lake is nice to Kayak on. A bit of a trek to carry the kayak but lovely quiet lake to be on.
This is a great park relatively close to town. It's well maintained and open to a wide variety of users. It's also dog friendly!
