My first time back here since it has re-opened. Nice choice of beers. Ordered the evening special of prime rib to be told there was none left!! Ordered the steak pie and it arrived cold. Have to say the fish and chips were great -lovely batter. Ordered the cheesecake sweet to be told it was off - surely it can not be too difficult to keep cheesecake available. Really enjoyed what we had - just a shame we could not have what we wanted!! Despite this we will be back.
We came in and ordered our beers. (excellent selection of on tap beer) Waited for the rest of our party. Great service...but the food is terrible. I just wish this place could get it right in the kitchen. Please send the food out hot! It is not far from kitchen to table so when its up bring it out. I want this place to do well because we need the Pub in our Neighbourhood. This is a child friendly pub so it could be a goldmine!!!
This pub closed in July 2014 and reopened Sept 2014 as “The Castle Neighbourhood Grill”. It has a nice atmosphere on the patio (good tunes, lighting, heaters) and a sporty pub look on the inside (booths and a few tables). A fine place to go for a drink (no fancy craft beers though) and socialize. The food needs improvement. The fries are decent tasting wedge type potatoes. The $12 steak and prawn special produced a barely edible steak (if you order rare you can get medium rare). My medium rare was almost burnt on one side, had no pink to be seen anywhere, and had that cardboardy quality. The server was friendly and responsive in replacing it. I then tried the Swiss Mushroom Burger. It was certainly mushy! It was OK, but there are better burgers around. Bottom line: go for a drink and, if you are really hungry you can be fed too. If you are going for a meal, several New West pubs produce better food. Maybe they will improve with time.
A good locals' place a little bit out of the way but the dried garlic ribs were great value as it was between 3pm and 6pm - $4 instead of $10 with drinks bill over $5. Friendly staff and nice seating area outside in a quite neighbourhood. Good value for money, and they do Shepherd's Pie.
