We chartered the GQ for a Rock the Boat cruise featuring the School of Rock Band. It was a great time. Beautiful scenery, an incredible sunset and rocking tunes. Sad that the boat will retire this year.
Great trip and beautiful scenery and great story's, but I couldn't hear any thing on the top deck ant some other areas as not all of the speakers worked.
We enjoy cruising when we go to various vacation spots. We knew we had to see some of Georgian Bay and the islands and later learned this the last year for the Georgian Queen out of Pentanguishine. It was easy to call and book tickets and they even allowed us to change days when the weather forecast did not look good for the day we had booked. The captain is great at explaining what you are seeing and telling stories along the way. As an old icebreaker it is a fairly large boat so there is some limits to where it can go. It would have been nice to have returned by a slightly different route but it was nice to see the islands again after hearing the stories as we had passed earlier. It is also a slightly slower ship so it is a 3 1/2 hr cruise. If you have a chance to go in 2014 make the effort and you won't be disappointed.
Summer is here and I highly suggest a trip on the Penetanguishene 3000 Island Cruises. Take a 3.5 hour ride on the MS Georgian Queen. I have taken visitors on this trip several times and we always had a wonderful time. The captain is full of interesting facts about the area and has a great sense of humour as well! There is limited food and beer and wine available for purchase- you can bring your own snack if you wish. That is what I do every time I go on a boat trip. They are one of my favorite ways to see a city. The reason to go on this boat ride is for the unparalleled beauty of Georgian Bay! it truly is breathtaking. Every passenger seems thrilled at the waters and rocky shorelines. The boat could certainly use a new coat of paint and the interior could be freshened up - but I spend my time out on deck the entire time- I often experience the same type of conditions on boats- its all part of the atmosphere to me. One piece of advice- bring a sweater and a hat. The wind can pick up and the clouds can roll in quickly. Also remember to bring sunscreen - and gravol if you need it.They have evening boat tours as well - and hold special occasions such as Jazz BBQ. For 2014 the rates are $27 for adults and $11 for kids and they have special family packages and rates for seniors. My advice is make a reservation and take a boat ride with scenery you will never forget.
We had booked this cruise well in advance, and had taken our 2 1/2 Hr. road trip north to enjoy this sailing. We arrived around lunchtime and purchased our ticket for the 3 1/2 Hr. Minicognashene Cruise for 2 PM. It was overcast, and they needed at least twenty passengers to be able to go. If they didn't reach this number then the trip would be reduced to the one our cruise. When purchasing the tickets I had told the ticket agent that this was my Mother's Day Gift, and that we had come along way, and that the one hour cruise would not work. We had arrived early, so we rested on the pier benches watching to see if they would get their quota needed to get the longer cruise going, they never reached their numbers! People who had reservations just didn't show up, or call! The lady who was in the ticket booth did two things, which were greatly appreciated! One, she refunded our money, and two, she arranged a trip on another cruise at a different port, and had them hold the boat until we could get there!Thank's to her our trip was worth it, and we will return to ride the MS Georgian Queen in the near future!
If you ever get the chance to visit PENETANGUISHIENE you must visit the Kings Theatre down at the Warf. The scenery is magnificent and the theatre is also. The resaurant at the warf is excellent. When you go back into the main street of the town, there is a variety of interesting shops and restaurants. Its definately worth a visit to Penetanguishine.
This was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon on the waters of Georgian Bay. The crew was very friendly and courtious. Great value for the money spent. If you call ahead they will make reservations so you won't miss the cruise on a busy day. We will go again in the fall to catch the changing of the leaves.
The boat needs a bit of attention but was adequate for the 3 1/2 hour cruise around a few of the 30'000 islands. Good value for money and prices are very reasonable for the cruise and the food and drink on board. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Only goes on a Wed and Saturday and Sunday.
