Absolutely the best Bakery on Main Street in Newmarket! Croissants, Cookies & Cakes are all outstanding and made with love!
I have lived in Newmarket all my life and the downtown has never been better than it is today. There are lovely cafe's, a Tea House, and a book shop on Main street, several great restaurants including the Goulash House. The best take out chinese food in town is available from Four Seasons Chinese Food. A wonderful micro-brewery and bar, Hungry Brew Hops, Made in Mexico authentic Mexican food made on site. For the slightly up-scale, Cachet Restaurant at the south end of Main street beside the Falls has a varied menu, cocktail hour deals, and a wonderful outside deck that overlooks the falls, the Tom Taylor Trail and Fairy Lake. The new Tea House at Main and Water Street has a vast variety of herbal and Chinese teas to drink on site or buy and take home. The Maids Cottage is one of the oldest restaurants on Main street and features great lunch specials - all home-cooked by smiling staff on tables with table cloths, flowers and a small outside sidewalk patio where you can watch the world go by, and there is water for your dog. The Maids Cottage sells homemade tarts and cookies to kill for. There are walking tour maps of the Historic district available free from the Elman Campbell Museum at the top of the Main street hill. The museum is free and open Tues-Sat. Watch for granite markers in the sidewalk with historical info such as Robert Simpson's first store (Yes, that Simpson guy). The Town Hall on Botsford Street, being restored and will be open later in 2015, is lovely and will be a cultural centre for the downtown. Liberty House, where the 1837 Rebels sat and ranted is on Botsford, just west of the Town Hall. Main street and the historic district is decorated beautifully in the summer with flowers, flags for Canada Day, and lights and more for the holiday season. Enjoy.
Newmarket's picturesque Main St has been home and Main st to a number of feature films including the soon to be released thriller "Regression" with Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson. With older era style buildings and functional shops and restaurants and cafes - all within steps of Fairy Lake Park or events at Riverwalk Commons - can make for a full fun days outing. History buffs can visit the Elman Campbell Museum also on Main st and for Newmarket paraphernalia.Pics include from the actual movie set of Regression shot on Main st in 2014!Enjoy!
2014 brought few new bars/pubs to Main st. Newmarket. Now we have: Hungry Brew Hops, Unika, Village Free House, good old Grey Goat - all right on the Main st. Add here Big Daddy on Davis dr. and Crows Nest on Prospect - all within walking distance - that makes downtown Newmarket an ideal destination for the Pub Crawl.
Yummy, moist ,real cupcakes. What a nice treat! It is great that there is a fresh independent desert place to visit . Lovely creative choices .Thanks for the sweet treats!
A nice little main street with potential - need a few more smaller shops and outdoor patio type restaurants to attract a few more people. There's a great farmers market on the Saturday during the summer and nearby fairy lake is a great place to have a picnic/spend the day with the family. Great LONG paved trails for walking, biking or rollerblading.
An exceptional day! With a lovely stroll through fairy lake park, cool your feet afterwards at the splash pad park. Then hit the Main Street! There is numerous food choices in this 200 meter stretch. From Mexican to fine dining to wimpys burgers. And culture galore, from the Ellman Campbell museum to the lovely old church and historic clock tower and hotel. The museum volunteers can advise you of a short walk on the surrounding streets taking in the historic he's of the early settlers and also give you a brief insight as to how the town got its name! A true full day can be spent in this very centralized location and if there is not something for everyone in your group, you are just not looking!! Enjoy!!!
We all felt like a day trip so we packed dup the kids and headed out of downtown. We found Main Street Newmarket and were surprised by what a great Main Street / heritage area it was. We walked around Fairy Lake, Main St and the surrounding heritage area, stopped for ice cream and took in some Jazz at the town square. There looked like there3 were quite a few places to eat; I wish we had more time for lunch...maybe next time. Who knew Newmarket had this?!?
