The service at grand river kayak was appalling. The upside of this place is that the shop was clean and well organized . However, the owner who served us was rude and sarcastic. He was extremely impatient with us and it feels like he didnt want our business. We rented out a canoe and kayak for fishing. We returned the canoe after 2 hours because we didn't catch anything. He made a comment" the river is so big and you guys didn't catch a thing?" I rather go back to grand river adventure for better service and experience
We are all novice canoers (is that really a word?) and didn't know what to expect of our experience here. Overall I'd say we had a successful time! My son even caught a fish! while I did all the paddling…The grounds are clean and inviting and the equipment was well kept. We would go back to do this again.
These people know their stuff! Excellent equipment! Convenient ramp! Knowledgable and friendly staff! I'm an experienced kayaker, so I'm a tough sell. Consider upgrading to the day touring kayak for a really comfortable ride! Reserve ahead because they run out of some types of kayaks early.
I travel all the way from Mississauga to participate in Ed and Tanya's kayak tours. The marshes around their area, are a great way to spend a laid back afternoon in the kayak, and a great opportunity to introduce my whole family to the sport of kayaking. Their evening tour to watch the fireworks during the local Mudcat Festival was breath taking and a night I will never forget. The last time I went on a tour, I heard one of the owners explaining how purchasing a boat from him was much better than buying one off the shelf at a discount store...If you like one the looks of one of his boats, you can go out and try it before you buy it. Makes perfect sense to me. I guess I know where I am going to get my family's next boat!!
A fun and relaxing day can be had here in a kayak on the grand Grand River. ED and Tanya will help with every step of learning and safety and fun. Go see them for a grand time on the Grand River.
We went for a great day on the Grand River in both canoe and kayak. Wonderful surroundings, beautiful birds and water lilies galore. Professional service and safety from Grand River Kayak!
I have purchased an awesome kayak from this company at a great price. They are ready to give you a great deal. Took my level 1 kyayak course from Ed too. Very informative and fun. Also did a kayak surfing course. So much fun and highly recomend this....the best. Great Husband and wife team and a very informative team. Have learned a lot from this company. Much more informative than MEC or Sail. Price comparable too.
Rented two kayaks and equipment for a route down the Grand River, had a great time and weather couldn't have been any better! Friendly and informative staff on hand and 1:1 guide to customer ratio was good.
I know im going to enjoy my new board... ty :) Great owners/staff. Wonderful, convenient location. Helpful and informative.
I've purchased two kayaks, equipment, lessons and I've brought friends on other occasions to rent for the day. This is the first place I think of, when I think of kayaking. I've always been treated very well by staff, and I've found them to be very knowledgable of the equipment they sell and the practice of using it. They are very safety conscious and that's important when getting into sports of any kind. I recommend this company to all those who ask me about kayaking!
Grand River Kayak's Paddle Canada certified sea kayak training is the place to go for the skills that will help keep you and yours safe. In an easy going, but thorough way, Ed ensures that you understand and achieve each step of the Paddle Canada curriculum. Don't put if off. You'll have more fun than you thought possible going to this school!
My husband and I who are not in the best shape and are complete beginners to water sports recently took an intro to kayaking class with Grand River Kayak. Ed who taught the class was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had so much fun in the class and we felt confident enough afterwards that we rented the kayaks for an additional half day after the class and took them out by ourselves. We can't wait to go back again!
My fiancé tried to surprise me when we were in Dunnville visiting family for my birthday. The only disappointment was that a family member ruined the surprise ("so you guys are going canoeing tomorrow?" lol). She booked us to take the guided evening tour on June 22nd to tour the lower Grand by moonlight. We showed up, got a little intro to the minimum safety gear, everyone got their kayaks into the water (eventually after a high maintenance participant finally got moving), and we were on our way. Once everyone was in we gathered on the water where the guide gave us the simple paddling instructions and then we were off towards Byng Island, which is a park operated by the Grand River Conservation Authority. The guide gave info and history of the river as we went, explaining things such as the weirs and fish ladders. We saw great blue herons over and over again. We did a little tour up to the dam in the park then turned back and went out past what used to be the Grand Island BBQ. That's where we sat to have a good look at the moon. We lucked out and the sky had cleared, after a overcast hazy humid day, and we had a great view. The only downfall was that the mosquitos quickly found us as soon as we stopped moving. We then saw some lightening way off to the north. We heard no thunder so the guide was not overly concerned, but after a few more minutes of viewing the moon we made our way back to the dock. This was a great birthday present. We really enjoyed it, and this was a great introduction to kayaking. They used very sturdy kayaks that we felt very safe in and they were comfortable and easy to maneuver. It was also a bit nostalgic as I grew up in Dunnville and use to spend time canoeing on the Grand as a kid, fishing for bass and catfish. A great end to my birthday.
Purchased some used equipment that was both suitable and priced within our means thanks to Ed's guidance and consideration. This enabled my two boys (one 8 and the other 11) to be on the water the very afternoon of our visit to GLK. Thanks Ed, my autistic son has a new hobby which he appears to love.
Grand River Kayak offers terrific kayaks, classes and paddle gear with the most amazing customer service I have received ANYWHERE. Ed and Tanya truly love kayaking and are passionate about sharing the experience with everyone who visits. I have taken several classes and have enjoyed them all. The Intro to kayak class and Kardio kayak classes have made me a much more confident and competent paddler. I have also taken the Stand-up paddle board lesson and enjoyed it very much! For customer service, knowledge and product quality, Grand River Kayak cannot be beat.
