This is the best place to hike, snowshoe or ski. There are many hills and it's a good way to exercise while watching nature changing before your eyes.
We usually take our three dogs at least once a week to Long Sault. They enjoy snuffling through the brush looking for squirrels. Long Sault has many trails for all types of uses. Cyclists and hikers share the trails and most are courteous. I have had occasion to come across motocross bikers, something I thought was not permitted, based on the signage at the park's entrance. They are more noisy than a menace. Cross country skiers use the trails in the winter. The trails are groomed of fallen trees and the trails are well marked.
This park is primarily geared to hikers or runners. Access is down a gravel road and there is a large parking lot and pit toilets. Parking is $2.00 for 2 hours, more if you stay longer, and there is a machine so be sure to take toonies to pay. There is a small grassed area with a picnic table and a good trail map at the entrance to the area. There are several loop trails, most of which connect, allowing you to choose hikes as short as a km or two, or long enough to spend the better part of a day. Most of the trails are through forest, but one trail goes through meadow with a great view of the lands to the south, all the way to Lake Ontario. There is good signage along the trail. Hiking is easy to moderate, with a couple of short, fairly steep hills .Seems very popular with locals.
