The hike from the monastery up is great - just make sure you take enough water and sunscreen as it tends to get very hot at the top. Follow the steep orange trail and when it comes to a fork take the right path which has a pleasant inclination to go back to the monastery.
The monestery is simple and modern. The location is exceptional; up in the mountains of Trinidad. This one of the major centers of Catholism on the island. They are known throughout the island for their wonderful flavoured yogart and yogart drinks. Also their guesthouse below offers an inexpensive yet delightful afternoon English Tea from three to five thirty. Call for reservations.
This location is a landmark on the island. Regardless of religion, this is a place to visit and enjoy. It is safe, there is food for purchase, its a place of peace and sight seeing.
This place is quiet, peaceful, scenic and nature oriented. I enjoyed going there. It is very easy to concentrate on God there.
A truly angelic and holy euphoria. All your prayers can be answered here.A place that offer serenity and calmness.
Located in St Augustine in the East of Trinidad the St Benedicts Church and Monastery has the most breathtaking view part of the East towns can be seen and the Caroni plains .As you drive along the winding road you will meet convents and other monasteries the landscape is beautiful with tropical flowers and trees adorn the roadside .Pax Guesthouse is located just below you can have some tea and local cuisine . A must see when visiting the island
People will tell you do not go there as people get robbed in broad day-light. Literally robbed. I have been there twice now at night, and it was safe even if it was just one car up there. It has an amazing view over Trinidad!
Went here a few years ago with a few friends for a work dinner and the view was spectacular. Go at night you will not be disappointed.
It is truly a very peaceful and serene place. The view from the top is also awesome. I visited the tea house where my friend and I had a good snack along with tea. The menu is a bit limited but we were pleased with the food. Will definitely go again.
Nice drive up the mountain to an unbelievable relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Buildings are in great shape for their age and the gift store had a great section of items. You don't have to be religious to visit and appreciate the views and serenity!
Mount St Benedict is a must- see attraction in Trinidad. The site is accessible from St. John's road between the towns of Tunapuna and St Augustine.. The drive is very steep as the monastery is halfway up the mountain of the Northern Range. The drive passes through very populated villages and the roads are narrow, but when you get there, it's well worth it. There are also minibuses that can take you up instead of driving. The monastery is a typical church, consisting of he chapel itself, a gift shop and priest's living quarters. The view is fantastic as you see the lush mountains on one side and the spread of the island below in the other side. In addition to tourist excursions, many locals also come to the Mount to just sit and read, relax, contemplate life, and admire the view. Of course, the primary reason is the Church itself, the fabulous architecture and the place of worship. There are no restaurants or food vendors on the compound so bring your own supplies if visiting for more than a few hours
Attended Mass. Just the spectacular view of the Caroni plains is worth the trip. Also the northern range as the backdrop gave the aura of a monastery. The cafeteria is basic and functional but can do with a major upgrade. Great for a quiet retreat.
Nice drive up from Port of Spain. Quite easy to find, but need a reliable car to climb steep hills on the way. Once there, enjoy the views over the city and beyond. And spend a peaceful moment inside the monastery .
We stayed at the Guesthouse and spent a few evening wandering around the monastery grounds. It has a super setting and some great wildlife in the grounds as well as all the other typical monastery buildings.
can get to this in no time, the view is great, regardless of your religion it was good to take a moment for pray. There were some folks who walked all the way up. If you can it's a great idea. Nice view & interesting. Would recommend. Free but a donation altho not required is a nice gesture
